I'm a "child of the 60's" who only now is beginning to understand the subtle revolution in consciousness this era began.  More importantly, I'm a fallen away scientific rationalist and atheist who now realizes that humanity can only evolve by expanding the consciousness of all our minds. Spirit is not just the empty word I repeated meaninglessly in church as a child, but is the ultimate goal of existence.
