The Invisible Cage 2: Peices of the box

"Every part of the social world exists only because of the ideas people embrace and act upon. ... It is because people share ideas about how to do things together that these patterns persist. ... When people settle into a way of understanding the world, they are also settling into a way of feeling about it, about others, and about themselves."
Michael Schwalbe, The Sociologically Examined Life

Methods of Psychonoautics: OBE, Astral Travel, Trance, Meditation, Visionary States...

Can you do any of these things? Do you explore visionary states, astral travel, move out of your body, enter deep trances or meditative states or similar?

I am looking for information on methodology from people who actually DO these things as opposed to thumbing through the New Age books that primarily seem to be rather... insubstantial.

The Invisible Cage 1: Thinking about thinking

Practical Truth (in answer to a question)

It seems to me that to say that there is no objective meaning is the same fallacy as saying that you know the objective meaning. It very well may be that there is objective meaning, but it's beyond our personal little scope to comprehend. Saying that we have no way of understanding objective meaning due to our inherently subjective position is not the same as saying that there is ultimately no objective meaning.

Is the brain concerned with "truth"?

Let's continue blabbering about such things as "truth" and whether it actually means anything. The way I'm thinking (which is all over the place so you may want to back quietly out the door now), I think we'll need to drudge through random thoughts on the brain and whether it's concerned with this nebulous "truth" business, and what we can make of "truth" if our brains--which most of us will agree is our main source for the scoop on such things--has less to do with it than we tend to suppose.

About Me

Bio

Yes. I have been here in this strange magical mystery tour of a ride for 31 years and I'll not bore you with the bits and pieces.
Short story: Had a great youth of curiosity and audacity; lost the plot as bipolar disorder messed my noodle up, taking over 10 years of my life into sheer madness that I'll not describe. But alas I have finally found a new cocktail of chemicals to even me out and feel ready to make up for the sort of post-school journey of self-exploration many like myself seem drawn toward.
I have always had strange experiences that I won't bother with sharing [especially after admitting openly to being crazy, lol], but the universe is a crazy place of infinite potential as far as I'm concerned and I love seeking out it's juicy essences and sucking the marrow out of the very bones of life and death.

Skills and talents
Music making: guitar/piano/synth/seq/bass/ukelele etc, hiking/camping [I'm even an Eagle Scout, lol], curiosity and audacity [without the audacity curiosity doesn't go far], a non-judging and easy going attitude, meditation/yoga/qigong, psychology, drug awareness and safety [experience and volenteering as a moderator for a few years at an international drug forum], a little bit of gongfu but don't throw me in the octagon :p, listening and providing feedback, open communication, wondering where I'm going and what I'm doing, comparative mysticism, sleeping/oneironautics, psychonautics.
Interests
art, couch-surfing, ethnobotany, Gatherings and Music Festivals, hiking/camping/backpacking, making music, Martial Arts, sacred mushrooms. free love

Additional study
Deep study of myself attempted through spiritual and philisophical and "shamanistic" methods [most successful when combined with meditation-oh my] over the past ten years to find mental health; now I'm bored studying myself, have given up on the big metaphysical and existential hairsplitting and am giving myself over to visceral experience advanced tutorial learning to live as part of the world rather than in a consciousness of poverty and competition primarily through gaining hands on experience with the fact that the earth gives us everything we really need, not Walmart and that there are limitless posibilities of lifestyle and people and ideas that were bound to be great friends and teachers.
