Meet the Ancestors

I went to Colombia in August 2010 with the intention to visit family and friends along with my 6 year old son. After a few days in Bogota, we went to Barichara which is an eight hour trip by bus from Bogota. Barichara is considered one of most beautiful village in Colombia. In 1975, it was declared a national monument. The town is filled with traditional old cobble-stoned streets, stucco walls, and wooden balconies.

My friend invited me to participate in a yagé ceremony that was to be held in an "eco-village' just few miles out of Baricahara. I met Taita ("father" or spiritual healer) Hugo while he was paying a short visit to my friend's house.

He described  the yagé ceremony to me as the way to meet the ancestors, the way to go back to our original roots (little of which I knew at the time), and the way to go back in contact with Mother Earth - Pachamama.

I am not and expert in yagé or ayahuasca rituals. This is my first experience and the account of what I went through during the three days camping at the eco-village.

During the initial ceremony I felt like my spirit just ran wild. I saw the jungles of the Amazons and the rivers running. At this point I still hadn't drank any yagé at all. All my senses were ready to explode. I could smell the jungle. I could feel the rivers. I'm flying all over Pachamama.

After the first part of the ceremony was done, Taita Hugo provided a cleansing herbal concoction made from a type of yagé know as chichaja, which grows in the cold mountains (paramos) of Southern Colombia.

After some time had passed, and I made sure my son was sleeping, the yagé took me to the jungles again where I saw a cabin with a group of elders (native Colombians) inside. They were silent, then I heard a calm voice saying, "Welcome. We have being expecting you."

While I was going through this experience, I felt very cold and expected that I would be vomiting my guts out soon.

I felt like I was freezing, and as I looked over my shoulder, the whole place (eco-village) where I was standing just disappeared. I could no longer see anything. I went blind. I did my best to compose my self and reached out for a small flash light I had in my pocket.
I turned on the light. I knew it had new batteries, but I still couldn't see a single thing except my own
body. The entire place was pitch dark, and somehow I felt like I was in outer space.
Silence all around, and the temperature was freezing inside my body like I was naked in the North Pole.
I didn't feel the ground and my body was very light.

The Dis-covery of Man
very good!
haha - very very good - i enjoy your sharing of your experience very much. and to the man in Saskatchewan - all i can say is that i live in remote Alaska, and if i can get them and grow them, so can you. probably Psilocybe Mushrooms would be the easiest and most effective/efficient production - they don't need light or anything - just room temperature and some cleanliness and someone to help you (it's very simple to do, but very difficult if you must learn on your own - the simple techniques seem very obfuscated on the internet). anyway, all psychedelics give a very similar experience - doesn't really matter which you choose (they are all cross-tolerant). you have to wait a few weeks to try them again because the blood-brain barrier shuts the door on them after an experience. it's good to have someone around to make sure you don't do anything stupid if you want to test stuff on the edge of the outer limits, because the body can somewhat act-out the visions you experience.

another wise man
another wise man said there is 3 kinds of knowledge: the known, the unknown, and the unknowable. the path to knowledge is changing the unknown into the known, and wisdom is knowing the difference between the unknown and the unknowable.
