I keep wondering what we will all do if (when) Obama flips the switch and turns off the internet due a supposed "terrorist threat".
I have no face to face connection with others of like mind (lightworkers), or at least no one talks about it when they are face to face.
Is there a plan? Will we gather some where?
I keep hearing the time for talk is over and it's time for action, yet everyone still sits on the computer posting blogs and news and videos. Where is all the action?

Where will lightworkers gather?
At least I think I am a lightworker, all the descriptions fit yet I still flounder alone in my reality.

May the internet never be turned off....

hmmm

i think about this every so often, i was thinking about it this morning.

i think i even thought about putting a blog up about it.

in certain ways we will be lost without the net.

i also think the same things about cell phones, they will turn off the satellites.

i mean, i believe we have the ability to awaken such technology within our selves, i believe the internet and cell phone tech is modeled after our own makeup.

still, we would be cut off from a lot of people if that happened

I don't think...

...they would ever shut off the internet. Think of the economic ramifications. No more $600 billion in sales. People cut off from banking etc. Not going to happen--unless the electrical grid goes down!
And if they did cut it off, we'd do what we did back in the printed 'zine (mine was InfoCult) days of late 80s/ early 90s--use the US Postal Service:
"In the 1980s and early 1990s, its comprehensive reviews (literally thousands in each issue) made it the most important publication in its field, heralding the wider spread of what would eventually be called fanzine or zine culture. Before the adoption of the web & e-mail beginning around 1994, publications such as Factsheet Five formed a vital directory for connecting like-minded people. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Factsheet_Five

Not about turning it off...

The conjecture is not about Obama turning it off. The issue is control by government mandate. Much like the Chinese system of internet access. This eastern communist module is much closer to what is being considered. E-commerce cannot be denied, the structure is too interwoven with todays economic system. Long live free access!
Take a good look around u-tube, there is alot of great action going on. For some updates feel free to use my blogsite for access to many great individuals and groups which ARE making a real difference.

Namaste, my sister, information is power.

it's only been since the early/mid 90s

so about 15-20 years since we all had internet at home and mobile phones in our use...so kinda think like Johnny we will just get back to the way we used to do things "before"...pretty difficult to imagine though not?...we would have our state tv propaganda (which hopefully many already have or will switch off by then), not knowing what is happening in the world anylonger...i.e. no idea about the war in Afghanistan or the genocide in Darfur and the likes...

we would however start talking to people around us...locally again...and might even find here loads with the same mind set...same idea and even same vision...do we do so now? do we go out and see whether we would already have a "community" of "our-likes" around? ... not really... as a) this would mean we would need to show what we think, how we feel and lay ourselves barren...and b) might through this fear to be cast outside...

funny thing is though...i spent less time on the net over the last few weeks...and more time with people round me locally...and found through this...not only interesting people who shared something unique but also those who are on my own wave-lenght...and this not even with going out searching but just by bumping into them...on the tube, outside a bar having a smoke, walking round the city, via friends...

I actually think that it would not be such a bad idea to cut back on the use and communication via the net...not to get rid of it...but to actually look round your surroundings...not your friends...not those people you already know...but see who else is out there...you may just be surprised...I for sure was/am....

It is definitely something to consider...

It is definitely something to consider...

So many of us have become so dependent on our internet circles to speak our minds on such things as politics and religion. It is difficult to unlearn what you have spent your whole life learning. You know the old 'rule' never talk religion and politics with your friends.

I asked my daughter last night if any of her friends felt a calling and she said they just do not talk about such things.

I have even thought of creating a t-shirt that asks the question: "Have you been called?"
There is so much information out there on the internet and much of it lies and subterfuge. We all know that the elite are trying and have been for years to use the 'New Age' movement to their advantage and steer people in the wrong direction. It takes a lot of time and determination to sift through all the data to find the truth that lays hidden beneath.

May all be well in our world. Lets go out an enjoy nature.

Love and blessing of joy and peace to all.

hmm...

the old 'rule' made me think...never talk religion and politics with your friends...since I can remember I have talked politics with my friends...I even talk politics with strangers...I spent all night last night chatting with friends (and strangers outside a bar) about politics, the economy...and more...

and it is very interesting to see what your daughter said...I can see this around as well...it seems the younger generation can share anything and all via the net (via their blogs, facebook etc) even their deepest believes and thoughts but are frightened to chat in person to those close to them...what are they afraid of? rejection?...I am really curious...

now I wonder - is it good that they at least open up in the "impersonal" space of the net or is it bad that they can only do so there and not amongst eachother?

Flow

The universe has a flow. The planet is alive. We are not merely a species of monkeys in suits, we are a grand story. We are connected by the fact that all matter is made up of energy and that energy has a pulse. So long as we attune ourselves to the totality of existence, there is no limit to what we can do.
For myself, I have noticed that the more I focus on solutions to problems, the more people I meet that are focused on the same things. I'm not worried about losing the net. If you don't have the people that you want in your life, (I like your term you used, "Lightworkers". May I borrow that?), then attract them. Make your wish known to the universe. Say exactly what you want aloud and you'll get it. Above all else, focus on the positive, not the negative. Do not sigh at the lack of "progress" or quake at the prospect of losing communication. Focus only on what you want and it will be yours...it will be ours.
Governments are unnatural entities, determined to ensure their own survival. They are separate from the natural world that we humans are all apart of. The world is bigger than any government, singular or global. Therefore, we are more powerful than they, even though it doesn't always seem like it sometimes. I don't know if you're a Bible reader, or if you believe in a supreme God or a cosmic consciousness of the universe or what, and I'm not trying to make converts, but I think you might appreciate the words of the Apostle Paul in Romans 8:38,39 - "I am convinced that neither death nor life nor angels nor governments nor things nor here nor things to come nor powers nor height nor depth nor any other creation will be able to seperate us from God's love."
Take what I've said as you will. Either way, I hope that you feel less worry and more contentment, one way or the other.

i think im more worried

i think im more worried about the amount of control our government is reaching for by even having this power than the actual internet. thats an interesting one to try to focus on a solution for

back up the internet

I think we're far away from being able to back up the internet... but it is entirely possible, using wireless mesh networks. People set up their own 'nodes' and the system operates according to completely decentralized principles.

http://p2pfoundation.net/Mesh_Networks

Can you imagine how awesome a worldwide, peer-to-peer Internet would be? It would be like an immune system for the earth.

Even if you don't have paranoia about the government, a solar storm could also easily knock out the internet and communications satellites. So, we probably should be interested in this kind of thing anyway.

Cheers

A Good Point

I think you bring up a good point about gathering Persephone. I've been having this feeling lately that "talk is safe"...most of what everyone has been doing is talking. When's the "action" going to start? When and where are we going to gather and actually start to apply what we know to what we do, in a larger, societal context?

I recently realized that getting "there" means starting "here". Actually starting, actually relating to each other in different ways, refusing to make excuses for old behaviour patterns and challenge our courageous selves to step up to the incredible potential of these times. It's the fertile ground to start something like a new society. But it's important to remember that we're at the beginning, that we're not just going to walk into it all ready made.

This very subject has been a dream of mine for some time now, and I have been feeling the pull of connectivity between many people as this natural next-step begins to take root in consciousness...that we are greater than the sum of parts when we work together, and can accomplish wonders - like we already have - but from this different, more expanded consciousness context. Community not based on any past model or ideology, but the carving of an entirely new path through terrain not explored for a very long time - cooperation, balance, sustainability, creativity, integration, expansion.

I would love to hear more thoughts on gathering.

Gathering

I have been feeling a sense of urgency lately.
The closest regional Evolver Spore is a 2 1/2 drive away from my home.

Lightworker is not my term I have just recently discovered it. I know in my heart that I am a Lightworker, yet I am still in the first stages of this discovery. I am compelled to action and do not know where to begin. Government and the power elite do still control an enormous amount of the world's people through the media and especially television.

I think it would be a far better thing to have the television broadcasts be shut down.

I have felt for a long time and have been saying for years that our (US) government will implode. When that happens Lightworks are here to help people with the transition into a new way of life.

I am glad that this has struck a lively debate. I hope it never happens. Though I know that this is possible in more ways then one.

Thank you all and may all be well in our world.

I think I would like to host a gathering, yet I have no idea where to begin. I have a very small home and very limited resources. Any ideas?

I'm skeptical that the

I'm skeptical that the internet will ever be deliberately shut off. Now, that said I can definitely see an attempt to throttle dissident speech, akin to the Great Firewall of China. Software exists which can edit phrases out of offending posts in such a seamless fashion that on a first pass you'd never notice it. If such measures become prevalent they will be circumvented by eg storing large web caches on USB keys and trading them between informal friend networks.

That said the predictive linguistics boys on the Web Bot project (aka Time Monks) have been saying for a while that from 2013 on there's a massive drop in web traffic. This could be for any of a number of reasons, ranging from the metaphorically apocalyptic (a pole shift or some other natural cull of humanity) to the literally apocalyptic (in the sense of 'unveiling', ie everyone Wakes Up and no longer NEEDS the electronic communications, for most things, with perhaps a skeleton remaining for trading technical information or such).

Personally, I've felt for a while now that the Web is kind of like training wheels for telepathy. It will be around for exactly as long as it needs to be, and like any other technology when it is no longer necessary it will be slowly discarded.

The Revolution is Within

Remember the great blackout?

I don't know about you guys, but I remember a few years ago when we had that huge blackout that lasted what seemed to be days, I think it was only 20 or so hours. But anyway, I remember in my Condo complex everyone getting together in a common area and lighting candles and burning fires, and cooking on grills and feeding each other. I remember thinking how peaceful and beautiful it all was without those distracting electricity run gadgets!
I really don't think shutting down the internet would stop us from reaching out to our community and families.
I think something similar to that would happen...I hope so anyway!
Peace!
