Naked Before A New Beginning

The trail is steep
And the gaps can be narrow
To climb as high as one can go
Before the mountain shadow
Slides slowly in
To chill the air
Midway between the peak
And the desert plain

Dry is the ground
Where stakes are laid
And slumber is found
Wrapped on the ground
Beneath a billion
And a half shinning stars
And dreams they enter
Without even trying

Eyes of a small girl
Born on 9-11
Both wide and brown
That disappear with a question
Why as a new dawn rises
With songs to be sung
And prayers to be made
Both for the good and bad
The truth of what we have or had
Like an old lover’s
Enough is enough
Of commodity kisses

Under the quiet highland
The tune runs dry
You travel low then high
For cups of fresh water
That saturate your only welling
Of need for anything other
And the night calls your name
But it’s too cold to greet it
And you ask it to leave
For a warmer time to meet it

Naked as the beetle
Naked as the bee
Naked as the birds
That chirp in the trees
Silent as the mountain
But yet it sings out ringing

With every new shinning day
You rise clothed
Then strip to meet it
As bare as the deer bone
Tried dry around your neck

Then naked and alone
You climb to the highest ridge
But another man claims
The tip of your labor
You leave with promises broken
But yet dignity undefeated

Naked as the beetle
Naked as the bee
Naked as the birds
That chirp in the trees
Silent as the mountain
But yet it sings out ringing

As in your dreams again
From a childhood green
Unburied is a snake
Wrapped round an egg
Mushroomed in the hand
Of an African shaman
Man made lawyer laws
Die soon after this happens

Silent as the mountain
But yet it sings
And with every new day
You rise clothed
Then strip to meet it
As the deer bone is gifted
To the mountain
And all his kin

And during final night’s cold
You toss from the sun’s burn
And awake to a shining light
Floating in valley below you
And you depart
Intent you will see it

But nothing is found
As you struggle back
From where you came
To a circle of shaman
And find again your sacred place
And the word connection
Is placed before you

Stories unfold
One of a snake
Travels to where I am sitting
A letter to be written
From ancestors high on a mountain
And an owl over a house
That used to be mine
But no longer
And through this final pain
Joy I will now find

Naked as the beetle
Naked as the bee
Naked as the birds
That chirp in the trees
Silent as the mountain
But yet it sings out ringing

And I know the tune
To me it’s healing
Mystery is the answer
That will answer before me
In this silent song standing naked
Silent as the mountain
But yet it sings
And I am free
To sing along
And to be merely
Just a part of all of we
Without harsh judgment
In all its sacred glory.
