I traveled to the University of Arizona today to find the one that was waiting the longest to see President Obama arrive and speak tonight in Tucson. This is what I found.

Walked past them all

People in a stretched out line

In a Tucson mountain valley

Came to listen

Maybe hear some solutions

Maybe more grand illusions

Some caught my eye

Standing tall talking

While others sat

On the curb of the road

Some clapped or gave a shout

Some just took the silent way out

And just waved

The peoples have become

All colors do blend into one another

Native to America

One cannot anymore tell

Here the line is the widest

And a question is to be made

To the one waiting the longest

Why

Responding an answer that was his own

From childhood voice and eyes

And then I asked him again

A what and maybe

A where or when

I didn’t argue his solution

Or who he was or where he’s been

His answer was to lessen the violence

From here to wherever

Gun beats walk the streets

Back alleys or dirt roads

Peace is always felt after another finding

Like that palm tree

Used a rest for my back

I smiled at a world non-violent

Without shouting

Some caught my eye

Some stood talking

While others sat

On the curb of the road
