i often catch myself in thinking that not only are we headed down a very bleak path as a conscious group of people but we seem to be accelerating our indefinite ignorance. we have all watched together the increasing need for technology in our everyday lives(as i sit in front of my laptop). the need to have the next new "thing" the next new hope that it will bring us closer to what we feel we are missing. our current socio-economic path is leading us nowhere and i hurt to see that very few really understand the changes we need to make in our communities and as a culture. i have been working the last few years through heavy addiction, feeling the tight and heavy grip of big pharmaceutical. i cant imagine how the thousands of people, pumping themselves with anti-anxiety, anti-depression, anti-addiction, anti-psychotic, anti-social medications feel. for them it becomes evryday life, and once you slip past the barrier of "help", you can see the true manipulation of what these chemicals are meant for.
"take this and youll feel just fine!"
its sad to see. we are a group of very competent, very intelligent people that has given everything away so we can have our 9-5 and our cup of coffee in the morning. why do we surrender our freedom so willingly to be so miserable? we think technology is going to save us somehow, "renewable" energy sources? try sustainable! our focus has gotten so far away from trying to improve ourselves that we think what we are doing right now is improvement. well i can say that we have set ourselves back further than we can imagine. doing work with a Washo Medicine maker, i have come to the realization that our current path is of destruction and consumption. were moving into Mad Max terrritory with our dependance on oil and other natural gas sources drying up. peak oil hit in the 70's, where do you think that puts us now? at todays rate were using 3 times as much oil as we were then and were trying desperately to find more, more, more!
what did we do before our dependence on oil? were we just savages that ate bugs and rolled around in the dirt? i think not. we need to seperate ourselves from the mindstate that we cannot do anything. we are society, we make up what happens, and although there may be people in positions of power, they are the ones that created that position, and that power. dont be fooled, you have it, right inside that crazy little head of your, the ability to change the universe. you are the one in control, so take charge of your life.

I'm going to rip off a Derrek Jensen spiel here... Hope is useless. It implies that you have no control over the situation. You hope that your plane won't crash. You don't HOPE that you'll eat tomorrow. You will do anything you can to get that meal. It is withing your power.
