Poem- Cosmic Giggle

I can't believe that I wrote this today. Stacks of papers to grade and taxes still sitting on table to mail, but I had fun with this one. Laughing while writing most of it- the title nod to McKenna mostly accidental but seems fitting.

Cosmic Giggle

To sing the world into being
You need not even a tongue but only a heart

Imagine if you were kidnapped by aliens
and taken to a foreign ship,
how would you remember this world?

You a hairy drop from the great blue and green drop
from the greater entropic-tortoise-cosmic-silence.

Billions and billions of years
trilobite, to pterodactyl, to mammoth, to mammal
to You
a hairy bag of water who is the memory of Gaia

You like an entomologist aboard a slick-halogen-hovering-metal-void
combing your backyard recollections with loose dirt under nails,
dandelion-bitter-cognizant hands

Would you? You would remember:
American Plum Borer,
Apple and Thorn Skeletonizer,
Apple Leaf Blotch Miner,
Armyworm, Common Armyworm,
Ash Flower Gall Mite,
Asiatic Garden Beetle,
Asiatic Oak Weevil

The tiny line of tiny black ants you smashed on your sliding board as a child…yet…

“They say the beetle bows because the faith of Buddha has sprung up in its insect heart.”

Language fractures
fracture to reflect the whole

“water that cleans
flowers that clean
water that cleans as ‘we’ go”

or flora mapped on human day

Acacia, Platonic Love, September 16
Adonis, Sorrowful Recollections, March 25
Allspice, Languishing, April 8
Almond Tree, Indiscretion, January 4
Althea, Dying for Love, December 29
Apple Blossom, He prefers you, December 28

cosmic giggle

All the animals singing in all the world languages

Frog: croa croa, quak-quak, kero kero
Parrot: Who's a pretty boy?, Ohayo
Dog: woof woof, vau vau, wan wan
Cuckoo; cucckoo, tokkyo-kyoka-kyoku
Rooster: kykyliky kukeleku cock-a-doodle-doo kukko
coo-koo-ri-koo u uru uuu (pron: oo-oore-oo)

rising the sun into the morning, the roosters outside lone hostel in Thailand, lone wooden room with dream puncture pierced through

the animals singing, every inanimate object singing too: ceramic coffee cup, silk tie or soup ladle immersed in fog pea soup, sakura blossoms, locust wings, hemp lotion squeezed down to crumpled metal tube, dear open kewpie eyes, this spring’s silver pussy willows, batik saffron lotus goddess, silk screened zebras, hula girl with lime green skirt, hula hoop, art deco lamp swooping gold crane neck into soft gold light, string of mirror light refractors from mirror tie man at American Visionary Art Bazaart-articulations of form, our wheel of suffering, whisper surround us, accoutrement song

If you were kidnapped by aliens, imagine kissing their shining silver skin, logos of computation crunch algorithm, reptilian onyx eyes, imagine their slender, texture-less fingers without touch of touch- heart, water, tongue- suffering explosion- fire belly song

All life a pulsed song
The first day the same as the last
April 15th
Death and taxes
Baltimore
Hoary silver trunks with pelted pink blossoms
cling chill April wet like tissue still stuck
raining pale petals
to humanize the most abandoned- alien elements
in us all

I myself have been blogging on here when my time could have been 'more productively spent' (ie, more money made/work responsibility finished). I think it is a sign of priorities truly designated. ^_^

Your poetry is wonderful, and your name well-chosen. I can't wait to read more. =)

Fantastic verse. What could

Fantastic verse. What could possibly be more important than sharing that with us?

The phrase 'cosmic giggle' has been rattling about in my head and conversation a lot lately. So this piece caught my eye....

A little "synchro" action :-)

I just finished Terrence McKenna's 'True Hallucinations' last week. I'd never heard the term "cosmic giggle" before and didn't know anything about him before. I'm glad I managed to read it in time to understand your reference. And great poem!

"Don't believe everything that you think."

Everyone, Thank you so much.

Everyone,

Thank you so much. It's a good way to start a day... 6:30 a.m. and the sun just rising now, filling my apt in gold light. I really appreciate the kind feedback. I seem to confront a wall of writer's block every time I sit down to write. It's good to know that persistence sometimes pays off not just with a new piece but also with connection.
