I’m sure everyone has heard as many arguments about the war on drugs as they can possibly handle, but i’d argue that there are a few more that probably have not gotten much attention. First of all if the government wanted us to take the laws seriously they probably shouldn’t have made chemicals that naturally occur in our bodies such as nuerotransmitters controlled substances. DMT (n-n di-methyl-tryptamine) is considered by many the most powerful psychedelic substance thats known and it happens to be naturally occuring inside the human body. Serotonin(5ht) is a tryptamine closely related to DMT and Psilocybin(mushrooms). Serotonin also happens to play a huge role in moderating moods & behaviour in general, so a large part of our everyday experience is controlled by a nuerotransmitter that is closely related to the most common hallucinogens. Morphine is a schedule II drug in the U.S., the funny thing about that is morphine is found in tiny amounts in mammal milk. Therefore according to current drug laws every breastfeeding mother is in possession of a schedule II drug. Every human is in possession of a schedule I drug in the case of DMT. Diazepam(valium) is found in the brain of rats. The point is that all these drugs have such drastic effects on human behaviour because they closely resemble or are chemicals naturally inside humans. Instead of trying to keep these drugs under wraps and illegal I believe we should use them for educational purposes & allow people to gain an understanding of just what these substances are. I think a drug conscious public would ultimately be a healthier public as people would use drugs less for simple recreation & more for their specific uses. The war on drugs is one of the most hypocritical issues of the day & a sure sign of how far we have to go as a civilization before we are truly free. No great nation besides this one has ever waged war against its own citizens.
