Just got home from Brazil, where I have been studying ayahuasca for three years, including treating a potentially fatal parasite (leishmaniasis) with it.

I've been into the apocalypse ever since Jehovah's Witnesses appeared at my door 3 years ago. I wrote a dissertation comparing their beliefs on medicine and the body with those of 17th century American Puritans, and was hooked. Apocalyptic texts, people and ideas have fascinated me ever since.

My book is about revelation as it manifests in scientific discovery, as it occurs periodically and catastrophically in society, and also individually in our heads. Nemu's End: History, Psychology and Poetry of the Apocalypse is available in Watkins and Atlantis, among other shops, and online.

Skills and talents

Hanging out in libraries, pouring over apocalyptic tracts. Ghost-busting. I can roll my belly and speak Japanese and Portuguese, all at the same time.
