Sensible use of vacant accommodation

This is a kind of "I run the country" type of plan. It involves using these Ghost Estates as we call them in Ireland & converting them to self sustainable villages. Urban agriculture is happening in present day Cuba, so it is possible! Everyone is agreed that Peak Oil is coming, even the people at Shell (but they say it will be 2050). When large scale agriculture is no longer possible due to chemical fertilizers & fuel prices, we're going to have to return to a more local existence. Most people will tell you that they don't have time to grow their own food & weave clothing ect, but I say to them, wait till your American multinational goes bust! You won't have much else to do except concentrate on the truly important things in life. There will be technology of course, solar, geothermal, mobile broadband ect... so there will be fun & entertainment in this future, but cruising along the bypass in an SUV won't be possible I think. Maybe I'm wrong & the future will be a kind of upgraded version of the present, but if you read the papers it appears that our current system is crashing. Barring some kind of miracle event or technology we're going to see major changes quite soon.
