It was something of random synchronicity that I stumbled upon the Novacut kickstarter, just by searching for open-source video editing.
The video editing field is dominated by closed-source video editing suites that suit big corporations and don't offer true collaboration amongst film makers.
Well a group of people from Boulder, CO are trying to create a true alternative for artists to the current market. They are doing so in a cutting edge fashion that will automatically coordinate the sharing of video footage amongst multiple participants and also provide multi-cam video editing.
They plan on focusing primarily on the DSLR market and utilizing the Free and Open Source and user friendly Ubuntu Linux as their environment. This really jives with what I've always wanted from a project and the potential for evolvers and other independent film makers is really great.
Right now they are trying to seek out funding for their kickstarter and there are only a few days left, by the time a lot of you read it the future will already be here. If technology along these lines interests you check out their kickstarter page http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/novacut/novacut-pro-video-editor
