Evolver NYC Presents: Thought For Food and the Healing Journey

Come to Evolver NYC’s next Spore, “Thought for Food and The Healing Journey” to experience different perspectives on food and healing as they relate to health, ethics, and our future. Participate in “brain massages,” healing meditations, and engage with a great panel of speakers. Meet members of alternative food groups who are actively contributing to positive change within the community, ranging from healing modalities to raw food to aquaponics systems.

Then you are invited to stay and party until the early morning at Re: Creation, the official Sound Tribe Sector 9 after-party, presented by Euphonic Conceptions and MCP! Featuring: Dr. Fameus, Welder, Sub Swara, Two Fresh

Meditation
Eliott Edge will lead an informal, audio-based sound meditation “brain massage” and Helene Finizio will lead a healing meditation

Panel
Helene Finizio, an intuitive life coach, will speak about the science supporting alternative healing practices as they relate to human consciousness. Stacey Antine, founder and CEO of Health Barn USA, will be speaking about the benefits and power of making informed, conscious food choices. Robert Lighton will tell us about his personal journey battling his own health issues and how this led to his current writing project –a book about mercury poisoning and the economy.

The panel and Q&A will be moderated by Liz Blake, a holistic health counselor Reiki master, and co-founder of The Be Hive.

Music
DrFameus, a guru of sound, began natural melody and TBM (Traditional Beat Medicine) in 2001. While surgery and healing beats have been given on a more personal level the doctor is looking forward to treating the masses with his delectable ear candies. Welder, aka Brendan Angelides and “Eskmo”, is a San Francisco based musician and live performer who creates heavily melodic instrumentals hosting considerable atmospheres and wide sound palettes. Sub Swara is a live electronic crew that represents the best in lo-frequency hi-vibration culture. Built for both the dance floor and the headspace, Sub Swara melds dubstep, dancehall, and jungle, to breakbeat, midtempo, and glitch hop, mixing it all with a global sensibility. Two Fresh consists of twin brothers Sherwyn and Kendrick Nicholls and is accompanied live by drummer Colby Buckler. They have a raw, cutting edge sound that is a combination of hip-hop and jazz that takes electronic music to a whole new level.

Passionate and the Path: Working with Emotions

Presented by The Shambhala Meditation Center of New York with Joseph Mauricio. Emotions - the waves beneath - are a wealth of stored information and power; providing the keys to an aware and compassionate life. Rather than live in fear of this natural energy, we can meet the beast under the bed, learn to cradle our fear, calm the great inner strain of embarrassment, and begin to open up to ourselves, our life and the world. By touching the emotions with loving awareness we transform neurosis into gateways of understanding. The Friday night talk, and the three workshops, will present a series of practices, meditations and contemplations designed to allow us to begin to wake up to this great potential. Public Talk: Passion and The Path. Friday, October 23, 7 pm. Workshop 1: Shenpa: Where We’re Stuck. Saturday, October 24, 10 am - 1 pm. Workshop 2: Loving Awareness. Saturday, October 24, 2 - 5pm. Workshop 3: Boundaries Into Bridges. Sunday, October 25, 10 am - 1 pm. Joseph Mauricio, a senior teacher in the Shambhala Community, is a long time student of the Sakyong, and was privileged to serve as his chef and attendant for many years. Joseph is currently the Director of New Programming, and Public Outreach at the New York Center. He is the founder of LIFEWORK a self-help counseling service, and serves as a lifecoach, meditation instructor, performer, motivational speaker and public speaking

Sierra Club Brooklyn Bridge March

This fall, the world will set its response to climate change. In December, an international conference in Copenhagen will negotiate a global climate treaty level. Will it be strong enough to bring greenhouse gases down to safe levels? Or will it be too weak? In the next few months there will be both worldwide negotiations, and a global call to action, demanding a strong and enforceable climate treaty. On Saturday, October 24th, the international Day of Climate Action, citizens around the world will hold events calling for a treaty to limit carbon dioxide in the atmosphere to 350 parts per million – what scientists tell us is the upper safe limit. We’re already over that now. Join us, and citizens around the world, to call for bringing CO2 down to safe levels. www.350.org. March across the Brooklyn Bridge. Meet Sierra Club NYC and other New Yorkers at 12 noon at the entrance ramp of the Manhattan side of the Brooklyn Bridge. Bring signs, bells, whistles. Wear costumes if you’ve got them. Rally in Times Square. After marching across the Brooklyn Bridge, we’ll proceed to a large rally in Times Square. Details to be confirmed. Please contact Stephanie Corrado for more information at Stephanie.corrado@gmail.com or 908.309.3986. Help us spread the word about October 24. To make this a successful event, we need your help!. 1. Out Of This World

New monthly party debuts saturday at new williamsburg club with the first official union of two of fine wine and jonathan toubin. Panache booking, new york night train, and downtown soulville present “out of this world”: an early 60s soul dance party w/mr fine wine and mr jonathan toubin. Plus cameos by josh styles and international guests… for free. Fine wine: a tastemaker known worldwide for his wfmu radio show, compilations, and, above all, his exquisite vinyl collection. Orderly, responsible, and deliberate, this dj legend practices his art on the air, in comfortable bars, classy clubs, and other prestigious institutions. A favorite of soul enthusiasts and collectors. Jonathan toubin: a party rocker known worldwide for his late-night high-speed sets and spectacular approach to dance parties. So messy, reckless, and candid that he hasn’t yet taken the time to select a dj name, this newcomer practices his art on the concrete floors of d.i.y. Spaces, rock venues, dance clubs, and afterhours. A favorite of punks and party people. What will happen when this odd couple shares a common dj booth? It may just work – it’s already been well-established that fine wine also knows how to bring a party and mr. Toubin has some fine jams of his own. I’m starting to hear the theme song from the tv show, how ’bout you? While new york spends one last night watching live music during the cmj festival, new york night train, downtown soulville, and panache booking offer an alternative - the monumental soul dance party taking place at a brand new venue, 213 n. 8th (between roebling and driggs) saturday night. Two of the best known soul 45 djs on the planet, mr fine wine of wfmu’s downtown soulville and mr jonathan toubin of new york night train, after independently practicing their black art in new york and all over the road without crossing paths, are officially paired for the first time for this, the debut of their new monthly dance party, “out of this world.” this odd couple was initially brought together behind the booth for the first time in late august at the memorial for their mutual favorite dancer, carlos alvarez. This unlikely pairing worked so well that the two decided to collaborate on a new party in which both focus exclusively on the preferred sounds of their favorite dancer – the ecstatic rhythm of early 1960s soul. If you’re thinking the wild and wonderful post-r&b/post-doo wop sound typified by early 1960s james brown, isley brothers, contours, etc, you’re on the right track jack. Additionally, tonight they will be joined for a cameo set by their mutual colleague and friend, another towering figure in the contemporary international 45 dj landscape, josh styles of smashed. Blocked! And surprise international guest djs in town for the wfmu record fair. 213 n. 8th is the recently remodeled large venue in the conveniently located williamsburg spot that was formerly supreme trading boasts a huge wooden dancefloor and amazing sound system. An ideal place to dance, listen, and experience the magic of this amazing combination of djs playing the raw thrilling sound that’s so easy to love.

Come dressed in your Halloween costume for an adventure into hidden dimensions. 7.30pm: Daniel Pinchbeck will talk with Mitch Howoritz, leading editor and writer of spiritual, metaphysical and esoteric books. His latest book “Occult America: The Secret History of How Mysticism Shaped our Nation” has been lauded by Deepak Chopra and Ken Burns. 9.30pm: Two filmmakers will screen their occult visions and shake up your mind. Jason K Tallon – filmmaker and poet, whose imagination was cultivated in the same back woods as Lovecraft’s “Whisper in the Darkness.” Artist Cosimo Cavallaro, sculptor of Chocolate Jesus says, “Tallon creates images that fossilize in your memory and unlocks emotions from one’s own prison…” Eliott Edge – began experimental filmmaking aged 10 and was known for his bizarre and brilliant visions by his classmates and his NYU professors and colleagues. Upon leaving NYU after finding the narrative form too limiting, he showed “Hello Sexy Curse” at Alex Grey’s Entheovideo Festival, VJ-ed, played improv noise music and co-created the Art Zine, Upstairs Arcade. Seeding Gift Culture - Two-Day Seminar with Charles Eisenstein

Writer and speaker Charles Eisenstein will lead a two-day seminar on the overarching theme of the Gift. This gathering is a transmission or an attunement to a new story of self and world: the self of interbeing, living in the spirit of the Gift. Cognitively, we will embed the crises converging upon us today within a vast metahistorical context; experientially, we will translate the heart’s knowing - that a more beautiful world is possible - into embodied, living belief. Something will crystalize within you, and never again will you doubt what you know or think that maybe it is you, and not the world, that has gone mad. With the power of word, attention, and presence, we are gathering to catalyze the next step of the revolution in human beingness. The time of loneliness on the path, the time of wondering if maybe we are crazy, the time of feeling alone in our intuitions against a world hostile to the Gift, is over. This seminar will bring you clarity about your gifts, new confidence in their power, and an unconquerable determination to live them. Presented by StorySpiral, Souldish, and The NY Mythology Group.
