There's an exciting new film out at the Sundance Film Festival. One I am sure some of you can relate to. A down-and-out-man finds that he can heal others but to his dismay cannot heal himself. On this hero's journey of self-discovery and self-responsibility, he first falls into the trappings of fame and fortune, the promises that the ego lusts for and abandons those who need him most. The film then explores his journey through his dark night of the soul and beyond.
Ultimately, Filmmaker Mark Ruffalo is trying to inspire people to have conversations about the issues explored in the film; homelessness, compassion, grace and what do we do with the gifts we've been given. It is both gritty and inspiring.

Description:
SYMPATHY FOR DELICIOUS marks acclaimed actor Mark Ruffalo’s first foray into directing. This inspired and unusual film tells the story of Dean O’Dwyer (Christopher Thornton), also known as “Delicious D,” an up-and-coming DJ on the underground music scene in Los Angeles. Forced to live out of his car on skid row, Dean begins his descent into depression when he meets Father Joe Roselli (Mark Ruffalo), a passionate young priest. Father Joe introduces Dean to the world of faith-healing, an unlikely way for him to begin his quest to walk again. He soon discovers that he possesses the otherworldly power to heal people, but in an odd twist of fate, he is utterly unable to heal himself. Despite Father Joe’s warnings, Dean angrily decides to use his new found gift for fame and fortune. He joins a rock band but his new found notoriety is unable to cure the hurt that encompasses his life. To find true healing, Dean must ultimately confront his worst demons and come to terms with his own humanity. SYMPATHY FOR DELICIOUS is an edgy rock-and-roll spiritual journey that explores the lasting effects of tragedy, the search for meaning, and the ultimate redemptive power of compassion.

The spiritual path is not a
The spiritual path is not a pleasurable experience. It is full of dangers, booby traps, and initiatory experiences that threaten utter ruin if not traversed the right way. And one always emerges transformed; but never in the way one expected while taking that first step.
Spiritual gifts, powers, and perceptions are also a double edged sword. We are required to use them to the benefit of all; but if we fall into the trap of the ego, it will betray us - often by describing us to ourselves. Which is the last thing the ego wants!
I look forward to seeing this film.
