What is Sat Yoga and how do I know if I am interested in it?

1. The first problem is in describing Sat Yoga. There are some things that can be described; some that cannot be; some that can be described, but only to someone who has had the same kind of experiences; and some things that can be described only after they have been seen by someone else with the right experience. Sat Yoga is in all four categories, and helps people deal with issues that are in all four categories.

2. There are some things that are true if you believe them; other things that are not true, even if you believe them; yet others that can become true, if you believe them. And there are some things that one cannot stop believing, even though they are not true—and some things one cannot stop believing even though one knows perfectly well they are not true. Sat Yoga can help with all those kinds of things; sometimes all the help one needs is to know which kind of thing it is that one is dealing with.

3. There are some problems you may have for which there is someone you can call to help you deal with it; there are some problems for which there is no one to call; there are some problems that you do not consider problems, but everyone else in your life does; there are some problems that only a place like the Sat Yoga Institute could help you solve; and there are some problems you only realize you have, after you have come to Sat Yoga. For some people, it is even worse: there are some problems you only realize you have, after your wife has come to Sat Yoga (or your daughter, or son, or husband, etc.)

4. The basic problem is that reality itself is very difficult to understand or to master. When your problem is your relationship to reality itself, rather than to some objective aspect of it, it is very difficult to get help, if only because all help seems to come from reality itself, and if your problem is with reality, then you may not want its help. Sat Yoga may be of some use here, since we refer people to a source of help that is not located in reality. In fact, in some important ways, Sat Yoga is out of touch with reality. Because we are committed to remain unconvinced by reality, rather than forcing yet another reality on you, we may be able to help you also escape the clutches of reality. Of course, one's problem is usually that one has already tried to escape reality, and it has not worked, but only led to a more unpleasant reality. We offer an escape from reality that is actually quite blissful, and completely foolproof—and on top of that, it actually helps you cope with reality.

5. The reality is that there is no reality, not only because reality is constantly changing, but also because it can be seen from an infinite number of angles and it appears different from each one. But even the reality of the unreality of reality is not reality from some angles, and in some aspects. All this can seem confusing and out of control, but in fact once you recognize that you too are beyond the jurisdiction of reality in some important ways, reality becomes much more manageable, and more enjoyable. The goal of Sat Yoga is to help you realize the maximal amount of freedom in your relationship with reality.

6. Our method is to invite you to step outside reality, as well as to step deeper into reality, which often amount to the same thing. Sometimes we help you to realize that you are already outside reality; sometimes you may discover that you have never been in reality; sometimes that you have outgrown your reality; and sometimes we help you see that reality is a crutch that you no longer need. Sometimes reality is actually a pair of wings that can help you fly beyond reality.

7. Since the goal of Sat Yoga is to help you realize that you are already free, you have no need of Sat Yoga. We don't want anyone to think they need Sat Yoga. The only reason to hang out at Sat Yoga is because it is magical. If you like magic, and want to live in a magical world, then Sat Yoga could be very interesting to you.

Beyond excited

I'm going to be 100% honest and say that this institute is everything I've ever hoped to exist.

I used to have visions a year ago about an institute that teaches spirituality free of prejudice and dogma, a place that gives fundamental basics to unlocking the potential of your conscious at the same time as demonstrating our role as spiritual beings in co-creation. One day I hope to start such an institute myself, but until that day Sat Yoga is a beacon of shining light to me.

I'm currently trying to save up money to take a trip to Costa Rica (from Canada) to study at Sat Yoga for a number of months. Personally MY problem lays in a need for higher conscious but having no guidance. I've taught myself as much as I can from books, and push to meditate as often as possible, but it just doesn't seem like enough. Going to Sat Yoga for at least 2 or 3 months I feel would provide that proper guidance and help me dive head on in to my own spiritual commitment. It would be the perfect environment to fully become indulged in my spiritual mindset.

I'm truly looking forward to experiencing what Sat Yoga has to offer, and especially excited to meet other spiritually minded individuals.

Hi Pashsanity, Thanks for

Hi Pashsanity,

Thanks for your interest in Sat Yoga and we welcome you to come when you feel ready. Sat Yoga is a very special place and we provide a safe space to grow to ones fullest potential. We are happy to hear that the teachings resonate with you and we look forward to having you as a retreatant in the near future.

Namaste,

Not a religion

It's not a religion but a place for spiritual guidance and wisdom. They have over 100 videos on their website that talks of their teachings. It's an institute for meditation and raising your conscious to a higher level.

There are no

- working, practical benefits to Sat Yoga. These blog posts are written by an INSTITUTE - not a person. The sole purpose of the institute is to spread it's infection among human hosts. You will notice the institute does not respond to comments. It is a cult like religion loosely based on Buddhism and yoga. It is mildly theistic and virulently memetic.
While normaly I honor all paths, one advocated by an inhuman institute are seen to be viral with hidden purpose.

book by the cover

when I'm reading articles here, I'm always interested in the content and if it has any meaning in my own path. Not who wrote it or why they did it or be afraid that I might be brain washed. I used to ignore certain friends and people I meet just by judging them too quickly, later I learned that some of the most important ideas I have heard were from these exact people. So now I never judge, I listen to all as if it were one person. I can honestly say this has improved the quality of my relationships and my life. It's the content that counts. It's either useful or not - either way, you are free to read or not read. Institute is just a name? look beyond and see what's there. After all what is an institution? An association organized to promote art or science or education.

Response to Fellow Evolvers

It seems necessary to respond to some recent attacks on my offerings here. First of all, let me clarify that this blog is not “written by an institute” but by one sentient being alone, who goes by the name Shunyamurti. I sign my name at the bottom of each essay, along with a salutation—namaste—that is a recognition of the divine nature of all of you who are reading this. By the way, the institute is a small group of dedicated people who are all trying to evolve consciously, just as you are. We have formed a school to accelerate our evolution. It is not a religion or a cult. We are learning, growing, responding, and sharing our insights. If you wish to know more about the institute, or about me, you can easily do so by going to our website.

Second, there is no intention to proselytize. Some of the blog entries are responses to people who have asked about Sat Yoga, and some are essays originally written for the Sat Yoga community. I have shared them here because I thought they contained some insights that would be helpful to a wider community of evolving beings.

In my search of the web, I found the writings of the people here on Evolver, and on Reality Sandwich, to indicate this as a unique hub for those who would be most open to my own insights about what is happening today in the world. It is only because I resonated with you, and found you to be the most sensible, open, intelligent, caring, courageous, and truth-seeking group of beings, that I decided to join forces with you and share the insights that have been received in my meditations, and to let you know about the work that is being done here, so that if anyone wished either to join us, or to engage in similar projects elsewhere, you might find inspiration to do so.

The only reason that I do not reply to every comment is that I do not have time. I am not only fully engaged in teaching, doing ongoing consciousness research, and working individually with people, facilitating their psychospiritual evolution, and also helping retreatants who are going through spiritual emergencies and life crises, as well as guiding the community as a whole; but I am hard at work participating in the construction of a spiritual retreat center, an eco-village, an ashram, and a refuge for those who see what is coming, and who would like to be part of a conscious community that is preparing for the future.

We believe that society as we know it is in the midst of collapse. When the final tipping point is reached, it will come too quickly for anyone to respond. The time to act is yesterday. Just as the Japanese were unprepared for the earthquake and tsunami, and now the world-threatening nuclear radiation disaster, there will soon be a series of other such cataclysmic events. But they will happen in California, Montana, New York, Europe, in fact, throughout the world. Global financial meltdowns as well as nuclear meltdowns will occur, far worse than anything that has happened so far. And many more wars, culminating in the big one. In fact, the list of plagues is too long to mention, and I would only be preaching to the choir, no doubt. We are at the end of this age, and the prophecies regarding the year 2012 should be taken seriously. But those who act intelligently now, and work together in communities committed to cooperation, non-violence, and psychospiritual practices that accelerate inner development can survive and become the generators of a new higher culture. It is necessary to become self-sustaining and not depend on the system for food, fuel, or electricity.

I do invite those in the Evolver community who resonate with these ideas and who are searching for a real transformational community to come for a visit or a retreat. We are always open to accepting new members. If you do receive the inner call to take action, do not wait. Time is short. We chose Costa Rica for many reasons—including the climate, the biodiversity, and the demilitarized democratic culture—and we believe that this area is becoming a center for cultural renaissance and the development of higher consciousness. Many intentional communities are sprouting up here. This is an exciting place to be. And these are exciting times. We focus on the positive, on the new age that is dawning, not the old one that is dying.

I am happy that people are discussing the ideas I have been presenting here, and I appreciate lively disagreement. But some of the ad hominem attacks have been over the top, and have no place in civilized discourse. It is sad that even in an awakened online community like Evolver that this happens. If I get the sense that this is a general attitude, then of course I will withdraw my writings. But judging from the number of groks the blog receives, many of you are interested in my perspective. And I do appreciate the supportive comments, and wish I could reply to each one. If I do not, it is because I cannot. But I send you blessings from my heart. And I do try to write about the subjects you indicate that you wish me to write about. But all that comes through this instrument is received from a higher source, and I am dedicated to the service of that One.

Thank you all again for sustaining your very important community of rising consciousness, and may all evolving beings attain the Supreme evolutionary fulfillment.

Namaste,

Shunyamurti

Well, I'm sorry-

that it took repeated questionings of your validity for you to come out from behind the "ego-less" mask of an institute. It really did seem that the posts were written offline for the purposes of memetic induction ( to get people interested in Sat Yoga).

The lack of response to any comments further exacerbated this perception. I do know Yoga predates Buddhism by several centuries and both are generally non- proselytizing and only mildly theistic.

I did find several viral statements among your posts and asked pointed questions about continuing to spread them, especially since recent wisdom and knowledge has increased actual insight into how the whole functions.

I am sorry it took what may be considered to be 'violent hammering on the temple gong' to arouse a response.
It appears that Sat Yoga is long path and has devoted disicples.

I do apologize for having interrupted your work, especially since I post in much the same manner(working mostly offline and immaterialy). I guess my trigger was seeing a "magick" tag on a path I knew to be not a recognized "short path".

I will read more closely your words, now that I know there is a person there.
