MAYA is a role playing game designed around new age, metaphysical or occult concepts, particularly those expressed in Vedanta philosophy and in the books "Lazy Man's Guide to Enlightenment" by Thaddeus Golas and "Illusions" by Richard Bach. The game was inspired by Chaosium's "Call of Cthulhu" RPG, and the games "Kult", "Lost Souls" and "CORPS". MAYA is intended to be easy to play as a multi-genre table-top role playing game using only a single 10-sided die as well as a table-top miniatures wargame similar to "Warhammer" that symbolizes "Armageddon", the battlefield where the forces of chaos are engaged in a hellish eternal conflict with each other. Important to note is that MAYA was created by me and is succeptible to the same kind of flaws that I have. I am not, nor do I or anyone else think that I am in any way "enlightened", even though MAYA is about spiritual evolution, I am a skeptic and do not believe in anything wholeheartedly. It is purely for entertainment purposes, but if it does happen to help make the world a better place, then I will feel that my mission is complete.

Greetings!

Thank you for your interest! MAYA is a pen and paper role playing game I have been developing for nearly 20 years (off and on). It's design was inspired by my early interest in metaphysics and further evolved upon my reading "Lazy Man's Guide to Enlightenment" by Thaddeus Golas and "Illusions" by Richard Bach. I am nearing the playtesting phase having only had difficulty with the character creation itself. It is a pretty simple game I think, but only because I have condensed everything down to the basics and created something new, I think. I will post more here soon including a link to the website. Below is a link to the article that explains the name MAYA.

It is a generic type role-playing game system that allows for, encourages and teaches (Hopefully) destruction of ego in an exciting way involving futuristic and mystical fantasy settings as well as adventures in the afterlife. It is named after Players can choose to find balance between Chaos and unity or, like a jedi, choose balance, which means constantly battling the forces of chaos/evil/darkness. The rules are designed to be modular and can be played as a wargame as well...if that's what you are into.

I will keep you posted if you are interested!

I Like

I'm a borderline addict when it comes to games. This sounds interesting!

This is awesome!

If you ever need a playtester Im down! : D

Looking forward to hear more...

...I have, amongst others, a 22 year old little brother with a bright mind and a lot of playing experience who I'd like to give that game to - maybe he can try it out for you =)?

I know nothing on playing

I know nothing on playing this and I am curious.

Thank you all for your

Thank you all for your interest! My work schedule has been pretty tough lately, but I have a chance to work on MAYA on Sundays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays. I will keep you all posted on it's status. It is almost ready for some playtesting. It is a pretty complicated subject for a game and simplifying things in a reasonable way is tricky. I am still changing character creation which is the most important part of the game and this is the only thing holding be back... well, that and organization of the material (but that's another story!).

This sounds fascinating, and

This sounds fascinating, and i, too, would REALLY like to hear about it once its to the playable point. Sounds like a great way for an incipient group to get to know each other.

Particularly intrigued by the fact you're using Lazy Man's Guide - that book has been MY guide for 30+ years, and if i was forced to pick Only One Book (*gasp* the horror!) that would probably be The One.

Game

I'm interested in this game too! I'm generally interested in games for social evolution. So, please keep me informed when the game is available (perhaps send me an email thru web site below).

Curious, how did you come to use this particular lattice?

Hey good question! I

Hey good question! I designed the logo at first as a play on the letters MAYA. The gridlines came to me later , but they fit nicely. Colors seemed natural to me. If anyone has any suggestions about anything at all, let me know.

Awesome

This looks pretty interesting, I've been wanting a new type of game to fill my procrastinating hours with that wasn't just a small variation on countless others I've played before. And it sounds as if it could be pretty fulfilling as well as entertaining, heres to hoping it is :D

Hi Scott

I'm an old recovered RPG video game addict. Your concept sounds interesting. If you need any graphics or illustrations, check out my website and let me know what you might need.

Hey thanks for the interest!

I checked out your site and think your work is great! Anything you could offer would be great! I'm not sure what direction to head in the style department. I was going to try doing the art myself, but as long as it has taken me to get this far... sheesh! Did you have any ideas?

I am almost finished with the fine touches on the character sheet and MAYA will be ready for a very early stage of the playtesting phase. Some things cannot be fleshed out without playtesting.

Dude...this is great

I am so intrigued by this idea of yours and want to be in on it...very cool that I can be there when you toss off the champagne bottle on the bow...eh? I am right at the phase of ego death and am on a path of self-realization. This will allow some beta testing of the new reality.

see you on the surf line!

I am interested, and am looking forward to more soon. Going to check out the PDFs on your site.
