The Power of Coincidence

Its become almost a cliche, the idea that coincidences are more than what they seem. But these powerful little reminders that the Universe is actively participating in our lives should not be discounted. We are potent spiritual beings who are constantly ordering our surroundings symbolically. We use the raw material of our environment in a two way communication with our Higher Selves in the form of synchronicity.

When you are receiving a lot of coincidences, this is a sign that you are riding the flow in a positive manner. When we don't get as many symbolic alignments in the form of coincidence, it can mean that we are in a time of challenge and growing on a learning curve or that we are experiencing our shadow side and the flow of energy is blocked. This is a good time to do a centering and grounding meditation and to clear your chakras of accumulated debris. Smudging is also helpful to reboot our energy.

It is sometimes difficult to understand why a certain coincidence has occurred, and often times its counter productive to try to analyze a synchronistic event because we tend to see what we want to see and usually the Universe is thinking on an infinite scale while we can only think on a limited one. Its best to allow the understanding to come into your consciousness and subconscious symbolically, in other words, to let it seep into and inform your being without having to limit it with words. Its ok then to ask Higher Self for another sign so you can understand which direction you are meant to go.

Coincidences are sign posts which guide us along our path by pointing us in the right direction. When we receive them, we know we are living in the flow. These reminders from the Universe that we are seen and heard can be powerful affirmations that we are in the right place at the right time and that we are loved by a force within us and greater than ourselves.

Very Interesting

You have a keen eye, Uncle Rudy. Thanks for pointing this out.

I think we did.

cosmic communication

Kali, thanks for this very insightful post. One thing I've been wondering is how to foster more synchronicities, I believe your right that "When we receive them, we know we are living in the flow", so how do we find the flow? I know peace of mind is crucial, which for me has been attempted by living more ethically (veganism) and more in the present moment, similar to what you suggested with "grounding meditation and to clear your chakras of accumulated debris", but do you think there's a way to almost beckon the cosmic interaction? If there is an Infinite Intelligence always around and within us, can we consistently access it? Does that require years of meditation practice or is there another way?

Re: cosmic communication

"so how do we find the flow?"

In my experience - YMMV - you need to be open to whatever comes, attentive to and appreciative of it - come out of your head and be present in the Right Here & Now. Be a little bit playful, not demanding or expecting anything. When coincidence winks a bit, smile and be thankful ... and bigger and more powerful wink wink nudge nudges from the universe seem likely to come. (And when things don't seem to be going somewhere positive, when delays happen, whatever - keep a positive attitude, positive expectations - a delay may occur just so that when you finally get there, it's at just the right time.)

In analyzing my many strange coincidences over the last few years, I've realized that another common thread is being stoned. A skeptic would say this is just a high-ass seeing faces in the clouds, but if you read my blog (on this very subject) I think you'll agree that these are objectively noteworthy coincidences. I don't know if the pot simply helps me attain the attitude described above, or if it is a more directly-active ingredient in synchronicities (I've read some research that seems to indicate that an activated limbic system makes synchronicities more likely to occur - and guess what part of the brain THC primarily acts upon).

The pot also may help me get closer to the state of mind I have found while tripping - I have had several "mystical experiences" with both shrooms and LSD (set and setting are so vital to this) - and when I get really high, that awareness of the Oneness and interconnectedness of all things seems much more real and tangible than when my brain is running on sober.

Anyway, it's a great article and question - I hope more people chime in with their experiences. And please surf over to my blog if you have any interest in one guy's exploration of synchronicity - the reason I went public with it all is to open the door to the synergy of new minds and eyes interacting on this fascinating topic.

Thanks for y'all and this place!

different boards for the same waves

Thanks for sharing what has been working for you, drugs havent been the ticket for me personally. I tried to check your blog but there wasnt any posts on your page, is it on a different site than Evolver?

awesome

"different board for the same waves"

That is great! I'd written - but then deleted - a part at the end of that post about how we should "surf reality" - not simply "go with the flow" - but balance on and aim our boards, work with the winds and waves, play amongst them as we'd like, etc ... and then the first comment is almost a direct response to that unstated "Surf It" philosophy lol

Anyway, yes, I am new on here, my blog is external: http://teapotshappen.wordpress.com

Hope you find it worth some while!

Good Question

"One thing I've been wondering is how to foster more synchronicities ...but do you think there's a way to almost beckon the cosmic interaction? If there is an Infinite Intelligence always around and within us, can we consistently access it? Does that require years of meditation practice or is there another way?"

Thank you for your kind words. I appreciate your question, it allowed me to get clear myself on these points that you bring up.

I think the trick is to rely on your practice to be the backbone of the flow of energy into your life. This can be your conscious use of food, in the form of your practice of veganism, or any way that you get in touch with your inner self and the Universe. For some this entails years of meditation, as you said, but its my belief that this is not the only way to access the Infinite Intelligence. It is my belief that It is constantly offering us opportunities for interaction in the form of symbols in our outer environment, dreams, and as we are discussing, coincidences. My practice also involves the use of an oracle in the form of the tarot, which I find a helpful tool to access my subconscious and figure out where I might be deluding myself or where I need more work. If we are looking at our environment symbolically, it is possible to use that as a two way communication device in the form of symbols we see or trusting our intuitive guide and sensing the energy of a situation.

As has been said many times, pushing too much won't do, the key is to be in the moment and use breathing and sensory awareness as your guide. For myself, I find that 'putting the word out there' so to speak that I want to receive more guidance in the form of coincidences, the more they happen. That is one way that I feel the Universe is responsive. When it doesn't happen I will then question whether I am blocking and will let it go for a while I get in touch with my center.

living in the dreamscape

Kali,
Thanks for the great advice, (btw do you know if there is a way to be notified when new comments are added, so we dont have to keep checking?)
I actually just finished reading "Man and His Symbols" by Carl Jung (the first part is by him, the rest he edited), have you read it? VERY much in line with what your saying. Also I use the Tarot as well (my mother passed on the practice to me), along with the I Ching (specifically the book by Brian Walker, which I highly recommend).
Jung talked about how illogical it is for us to disregard what are dreams and waking life symbolism are saying, that it leaves us with a fragmented consciousness that hasnt integrated the lessons/insight/issues that are often suppressed, and how that leads to a dysfunctional society at large...
It makes a lot of sense the more I think about it and observe everything through that perspective.
On a different topic, but perhaps coinciding with this discussion, have issues with that Rumi quote! :) For me differentiating between what is better or worse (i.e. using our conscience) is a necessity for personal and social progress, so a non-dualist/post-modern perspective, to me, just seems to perpetuate the status quo. For a longer explanation you can read my essay "Eating The Apple" here:

Id appreciate any comments or suggestions on that, along with any other thoughts on synchronicities, etc.

hmm - Rumi quote

I tend to think that overall, there is no objective "progress" - only "change" with whatever connotations we put upon it. That said, I am glad for every rebellious spirit out there who finds their meaning and truth in fighting "the status quo" ... just a bias I hold and have no desire to root out. :)

spontaneity

I personally find a connection with synchronicities and spontaneity. I find they happen when I am stepping out of my routine and doing something on a whim.

Yes!

I too find that being open to randomness leaves room for the universe to work its magic within - it's part of "being in the Now" for me - I only listen to my iPod on "shuffle" most of the time, I love random drives without any goal in mind, etc ... and the times when I am most successful at leaving behind the 'grid' of structure, order, goal-oriented intent - those are the times when I am most likely to be brought to a goal by the 'coincidence' of 'external' forces ...

shuffleupagus

ditto on the shuffle - i only use an ipod shuffle, set to shuffle. actually a while back i started working on an idea called "Shuffleupagus". i created a set of short mp3 files that were just snippets of speech, like just a number, or a phrase. i load them into my itunes or ipod and see when they come up. the results are fun. if anyone's interested i could put these files up for download.
