Life of a Social Worker Redux

"J" grew up in a family consistent of a mother and father. Mom was a nurse and well, dad was too. Money was never an issue for J's family, yet J found himself to be an outcast within his own family. Subjected to repeated psychological examinations, whether he was crazy or not, it became apparent to J, the beliefs of those meant to be his closest allies. He must be crazy...

A Week in the Life of a Social Worker

So I've decided to share a bit of my world. The experiences I have on a weekly basis as a social worker. By no means is it a job that stands out as being great or even particularly difficult; however, you may find some of the stories interesting as they tend to point to larger problems with society. Typically, children placed in "the system" come from poor, poverty stricken families.

So lets pretend...

Amidst the normal waking moments of a typical Sunday morning, Joseph awoke; not only hearing the planes roaring in, but a peculiar sound echoing in his periphery. Bombs! Blasting to either side, he slide underneath his sheets only to be dislodged from such hiding as such hiding places proved to be inadequate in the face of the oncoming threat, He had been warned.

When people let you down...

They don't mean it for a reason, you just didn't make it imperative enough, your reason for existence and a position of friendship in their life. Whether it be music, political views, whatever... Ultimately, we all serve ourselves. For every time you decide you can kick someone else; equally, you can kick yourself. Moments pass that through recollection one can decidedly tell he, well...

My dad has gout...

Recently my dad has been affected by what the doctor's suggest may be gout in his right foot. He has seen three different doctors and been put on several types of medicine, none of which have alleviated the symptoms. Tests for gout have come back negative yet the swelling has yet to subside and he still finds it difficult to put on his work boots and go to work due to the associated pain.

Food of the Gods

I recently started reading Food of the Gods by Terence McKenna. I have read The Invisible Landscape and True Hallucinations and do also plan on reading The Archaic Revival. While I rarely use psychedelics, my interest in them makes me wonder. His views are intriguing. At times I feel like he is trying to sell psychedelics as a cure all for the world's problems. If only it were that easy.

New Topic... Me.

My path towards self-acceptance has placed me at a crossroads. At this point in my life, as I attempt to define myself according to the guidelines set forth by society, my struggle in achieving a persona congruent with such guidelines could be viewed as an utter failure. Family man?- Divorced. Tough guy?- Never really been in a fight. Provider?- I'm in debt.

Homage to Emerson

Because he says things so much better than I can, below I provide an excerpt from "Compensation". Enjoy.
