My dad has gout...

Recently my dad has been affected by what the doctor's suggest may be gout in his right foot. He has seen three different doctors and been put on several types of medicine, none of which have alleviated the symptoms. Tests for gout have come back negative yet the swelling has yet to subside and he still finds it difficult to put on his work boots and go to work due to the associated pain. Any ideas or suggestions anyone?

Damn that sucks... I'm limited to a work boot too, and they just don't make one that's comfortable... believe me, I've looked... so yeah, any pain/swelling will definitely be worse in a boot.
Would it help to purchase a larger size boot? So his foot has a little bit more room to breathe? If the swelling is that bad, he might need two different sized boots for both feet. But that might help.
Could it be that this is a circulation problem? If so then he might want to try wrapping it in Ace bandages (not tightly, just wrapped around so there's extra support there to secure his bad foot and hold it steady). He should still have breathing room in the boot so the swelling doesn't get worse.
If he's got no allergies to Advil too, then he might want to take a little bit before he goes to work so that the inflammation stays down. I'll ask my coworker for suggestions beyond this too, he's in the know about a lot of this stuff. I'll hit you up with a PM if he has more ideas. Best of luck to you and your dad

Your father should keep a food journal for a month and note his gout symptoms. It's almost always related to one particular food the body doesn't like.
