Climate Change of the Cosmic Kind

My view of "climate change" is irrevocably altered. Listening recently to several lectures from local Atlanta researcher Randall Carlson has opened my eyes to a very different understanding of Earth's history than what is typically put forward.

Randall has compiled an epic number of PowerPoint slideshows documenting (among MANY other things) exhaustively-sourced data showing that the miniscule shifts in climate our scientists have been lamenting, associated with CO2 greenhouse gas inputs, is truly nothing compared to the massive changes the Earth has gone through on its own, without mankind's industrial fog to blame. We're talking catastrophic spikes and drops in global temperature, due to cosmic events that dwarf our teeny impact on Earth's climate.

This is not some apologia for pollution -- far from it. But Randall's point is clear: if you want to talk about "climate change", let's do the research and learn what's really going on out there -- what's happened in the past, and what is sure to happen again. An asteroid strike to the Earth's surface, a fairly regular and increasingly likely-to-recur scenario, will make all of our hubris, anthrocentrism, and petty political sniping pale under the nuclear winter of a sudden and unfathomable shock to our global civilization. A cosmic wake-up call of sorts... climate change indeed!

In this past lecture, last Saturday night, Randall dropped some esoteric bombshells linking space-rock impacts with archetypal mythologies. The Grail legends and the Great Flood stories, he surmises, are direct references to monumental cosmic collisions in our distant past. These orbiting boulders also carry exotic bio-genetic materials, a fact that raises many fascinating propositions as well.

RE: Climate Change of The Cosmic Kind

Thank you Stephen!
Yes truly we may in fact be ignoring the greatest culprit of death and destruction on the face of this planet, not to mention all of the work of ancient cultures to forewarn and prepare us against such impacts.
Perhaps this evolutionary alarm clock has determined the fate of all life on
this planet for ages before and until we find a way to comprehend and defend against it. Truly something of this magnitude would help us evolve beyond the fear and division we adhere to as social norms. Hopefully we can move to such a point without such an destructive cosmic prompt....

Randall has exhaustive research to support these claims and upon viewing many of his presentations I must say I'm thoroughly convinced that he is on to something Major.

And as we have seen time and again it is those scientists and professors not tethered to a tenure teet who can see beyond the convenient illusions erected by the elite to keep us ignorant, distracted and apathetic towards the situation of our species on the planet.

Scientists such as Bruce Lipton and his revolutionary findings with Epi-genetic research corroborating the wisdom of ancient healing systems such as Ayurveda and the teachings of Jesus Christ.

Scientists such as Nassim Harramein who may have solved Einstein's field equation (while living in his van) while at the same time confirming such ancient esoteric systems of knowledge such as Sacred Geometry and Quaballa.
and potentially solving some of the mysteries of ancient Egypt.

Scientists like Randall Carlson who have dedicated themselves to the uplifting of mankind through education in the ancient mysteries and creation of a new world around this sacred knowledge.

And many many many more.
They will not be featured by corporate media of course and we know this. If your not towing the line of the dominator culture you have no place in mainstream media's conversation.

So thank you anyone who is tuning into this underground/online renaissance and please do what you can to spread the word to your friends and loved one's.

Thank you Stephen so much for being in attendance and for sharing your experience with fellow evolvers.

We look forward to building a better world with you :)

PEACE!

I agree with this. There is

I agree with this. There is significantly more going on than the pure-anthropocentric viewpoint. The planet has done this itself many, many, many times...and, at times, far more rapidly.

The fact that we are a sort of preemptive trigger I will cede, but the fact is that -- now the process has been put in motion -- the Earth is on its own autopilot at this point. The things we are doing now will slow the process so we can deal with it more effectively, but not stop it. I do not believe it can be stopped at this point, just mitigated.

What it means that 'climate change' has been given a sort of fast-forward, we can only speculate.

A history of the CO2-global warming debate. A passage from it:

"It seemed that rises or falls in carbon dioxide levels had not initiated the glacial cycles. In fact most scientists had long since abandoned that hypothesis. In the 1960s, painstaking studies had shown that subtle shifts in our planet's orbit around the Sun (called "Milankovitch cycles") set the timing of ice ages. The amount of sunlight that fell in a given latitude and season varied predictably over millenia, altering how long snow ands sea ice lingered in the spring, which crucially affected how much sunlight the surface absorbed. The fact that carbon dioxide levels lagged behind the orbital effect should have been no surprise, since a change in the temperature would change the gas level. For one thing, warmer oceans would evaporate out more gas. For another, as Arctic tundra warmed up it would likewise emit CO2 and methane. The ice cores now showed, as theorists had predicted since the 19th century, that a powerful feedback cycle was amplifying the effect of the cyclical changes in sunlight. Even a small change in the gas level would bring further changes in the global heat balance, which would in turn alter the gas level, which... and so forth. This suggested how tiny shifts in the Earth’s orbit had set the timing of the enormous swings of glacial cycles.

Or, more ominously, how a change in the gas level initiated by humanity might be amplified through a temperature feedback loop. The ancient ice ages were the reverse of our current situation, where humanity was initiating the change by adding greenhouse gases. As the gas level rose, temperature would rise with a time lag — although only a few decades, not centuries, for the rates of change were now enormously faster than the orbital shifts that brought ice ages."

Whether or not global warming is anthropogenic in origin is a fairly moot point (however harped upon by those attempting to hijack this phenomenon for their own financial gain). The fact remains incontrovertible that CO2 does, in fact, absorb infrared radiation. This has been proven with simple experiments involving tubes of the gas having light shined through, and measuring the radiation spectrum and intra-tube temperature before-and-after.

An asteroid strike, crossing of the galactic plane, shifting of Earth orbit or Sun-orientation...any of these things are scenarios that were on our doorstep (however ignorantly) before any anthropocentric causes began to be anything like an issue.

What we have, essentially, done is to add yet one more way the world might begin this type of transition, and to ensure that any sort of climate change will be vastly complicated because of our own hubris and pollution.

nice to see on Evolver!

I've never believed in the C02 causes warming idea ever since I started doing research on such things. Just simply look at who's behind all the propaganda - the United nations. Global solutions to global problems - aww...no conflict of interest there!

That said, I think there's much cracking going on down in Antarctica that we aren't told about and that is yet to come. Sea levels will change much more quickly than even the dire predictions of x feet in a hundred years.

Global Coastal Phenomena anyone?

Thanks for bringing this up

Thanks for bringing this up ST. Bringing this subject up at most social occasions seems very dangerous, I've had a few uncomfortable conversations with people about it, and got harsh reactions. Glad to see we can give it some press here.

Saw this earlier in a news post's comment section, and I'm glad you posted it here. Super interesting concept of these large rocks being myth generators and life carrying at the same time.

The Cosmic Bitchslap

I've been reading about cometary impacts for some time ... even had a dream about it several months ago, one of those weirdly real dreams that doesn't quite seem like one, even after you wake up.

Well. It's certainly one scenario. The evidence for cyclical cometary swarms continues to pile up, but you don't see much said about it in the mainstream media, either academic or popular ... you're free to draw your own conclusions as to why this is but I, for one, am inclined to believe this is no accident. The ancients knew of this risk and did what they could to warn us but over time, the astrotheology was so cloaked in allegory that the allegory became real and the key to the symbolism was kept by a very few and now, well ... why has this been kept secret? Why is the world worrying about terrorism, financial collapse and, oh yes, carbon dioxide, even while the sighting rate of fireballs and meteors continues to increase? Hell, I even saw one myself last summer.

Not much we can do about it now, of course. If we are about to get a cosmic bitchslap, well, all the organic vegetable gardens, solar panels and cool web apps will do us no good at all. Then again I'm not sure what, precisely, would be of benefit (maybe if we'd started laying in supplies a decade ago?) so, I'd suggest 'carry on with your lives, but keep an eye on the skies'. And hope and pray that Gaia shows some mercy on our dirty little souls.

The Real Climate Change Problem

Climate change, in itself, is not likely to end all life on Earth. The planet's climate has been changing since day one. But usually it changes quite slowly, so humans and other species have time to adapt. Unfortunately, at this point in history, much of the human population lives near the shore, where rising sea levels can have a devestating effect. While our mono-culture, petro-business based food industry is extremely brittle and could collapse from a major quick shift in climate. It's also true that climate change is happening in concert with the introduction of massive pollutants into the eco-system, increasing the stress on endangered species, which in turn could lead to a collapse of the entire food chain.

It's true that Earth has seen massive waves of extinction before, and somehow the planet didn't end up a dead rock like Venus.

But that doesn't mean that today's climate change isn't a significant threat. Especially to us hairless apes.

Comments and replies...

I received an email from a molecular biologist friend of mine who stumbled across this blog entry and felt compelled to speak in defense of climate scientists. She insists that scientists are, in fact, aware of drastic climate changes in Earth's past, although these swings are believed to have taken place over periods of millions of years rather than "suddenly".

She continues:

"Regardless of these past events, there are few if any times in Earth's history when the concentration of greenhouse gases (carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide, etc) increased at such a rapid rate as what we are observing now. There are extensive records of atmospheric composition of Earth's history documented in gas bubbles trapped in ice cores, and other geochemical signatures, so I can state that fact with the support of evidence.

"This is what makes this period of global warming such a concern, because we humans are changing our environment more rapidly that happens 'naturally'. In addition, one also has to consider that those past events of extreme climate change occurred on an Earth whose biosphere consisted largely of bacteria, not complex macrofauna communities (i.e. humans, animals, plants, fungi) like exist today. Bacteria are much more adept at adapting to environmental change - the linkages of more complex communities are much more fragile and irreplaceable."

I doubt Randall Carlson would disagree with the above sentiments (with the possible exception of the time-line of some of these climate swings). But then again, that's not the point he was trying to make either. I can't in good faith speak on behalf of Randall's opinion -- or his work -- to answer these sorts of comments. I would, however, be very interested in putting together some kind of panel or symposium where he could directly address the issues alongside his more conventional contemporaries. Such an event would be incredibly enlightening for all involved.

I will say, though, that I don't think Randall insinuated that the majority of earth's climate changes were due to cometary impacts. As I heard it, Randall's take-home message the other night was that we need to expand the conversation of climate change to take into consideration the events that have occurred in the past and how they are relevant to us today. He did share a statistic with us that the amount of money the US spends annually on studying/tracking possible meteroid impacts is roughly equivalent to the cost of operating a McDonald's for a year.

Randall insists that as the most evolved creatures on this planet, we have to recognize our species as "one people" -- and as humble citizens of the infinite cosmos. To expand the horizons of our consciousness vastly, and to wake up to the reality of our past so that we may survive into the future.

Nothing in the world I could agree with more -- on that in particular, and most of everything else she said. That is one smart lady.
