What to do?

Hello everyone. I'm a 17 year old junior in high school, and I was wondering about somethings that I could sacrifice in the outer reality of my life that are practical and would start to help the Earth more? Within the last year I have undergone some inner transformations through the use of psychedelics and occasional meditation. And one of the things that you need in order to have a successful transformation is sacrifice. So I was just curious about what are some things that I could start to do?
Thanks!

A couple things come to mind...
Hello Jack, if I may be so bold as to suggest; disconnecting from the mass media and not getting caught up in the corporate chase for money and trinkets would help. Discovering your true reality would be real nice, feel free to hook up with the many videos on my blog site.

Go slow, keep looking within, may you be blessed with truth love and ONEness.
Namaste, my brother Jack, seeker of truth.
Be frugal, if you aren't
Be frugal, if you aren't already. You'd be surprised what you can find when you go to thrifty places, like garage sales. Then you know your money is going to real people too. Recycle, an obvious one, but you can take it further and just put old things to new use. Find old books new homes, things like that, or create a masterpiece out of stuff you no longer have another use for.
Unplugging my cable was a really healthy sacrifice for me because it was draining my energy. Even just having to switch channels or hit the mute button when the ads started.
Refusing to eat McDonald's and most other fast foods was a big one too. Not just because of the food, but because of the way the worker is disposable. Like the food. Doesn't sit right with me.
You can always do little things too, like turn the lights off when you leave a room =) In fact, I think that's the best advice I can give you. Think of little things to do first before you tackle anything too big =)
Much luck
As said above, unplug from
As said above, unplug from the mainstream media, including videogames. I would suggest limiting time on the internet as well (it's a great tool, but can sometimes suck away too much of our time).
Try not spending ANY money unnecessarily. It's amazing how many little things we buy that just add up. Little snacks here and there, little trinkets, books, cd's, concert tickets, weed, etc. Before you buy anything, ask "do I NEED this, or do I WANT this? Where is my money going?"
Food is obviously something that we all need, but you'll be surprised how much of it you can scam from free events, or find in a grocery store dumpster. If you are able to find a produce distribution warehouse in your area you'll be able to get crates and crates of produce that isn't bad, but just isn't fresh enough for retail. More food than you'll even know what to do with! If you're living with your parents you probably don't have to worry about paying for those necessities, but learning to be frugal will help you when you move out on your own. Learn how to cook cheap, simple meals, like rice, beans, and a little stir-fry.
If you are working, you'll be able to save up huge amounts of money. The less useless shit you buy, the less you have to work that job you hate. The less you consume, the less you work, the less taxes you pay to the murderous gov't, and the less energy you put into the consume/destroy system of modern capitalism.
Check out this book
The Consumer's Guide to Effective Environmental Choices: Practical Advice from the Union of Concerned Scientists.
Super-condensed summary of this book: the two best things you can do to help the Earth: minimize traveling by car and don't eat beef. These are, by far, the two worst things that most people in the U.S. do.
Ahh... easing into the life of an ascetic.
The suggestions above are good - unplug, find truth on your own as you've likely experienced, and take care of your mind and body - exercise your head, read, think, experience, pursue the mystery, and embrace the imagination by bringing the psychedelic wonder back here and realize the divine reality at once and everywhere.
But If I had to give myself a checklist?
Mediation, Yoga, Reading anything that can help us understand the world as a whole, Macrobiotic or similar diet, get in touch with the earth, grow things, pursue questions, Record / express the journey with art/music/writing/creating, and finally, communicate it with others. Express the inexpressible.
I think you've got yourself
I think you've got yourself some good suggestions there Jack. I'm 19 and really just starting to find my feet in this whole other side of existence our culture shuts us off from. I had the benefit of free thinking friends and family but you really do gotta figure it out for yourself. If your not already I would suggest going vegetarian or vegan. Not eating meat clears the mind and body. Some sort of routine exercise is essential, evolving the mind goes hand in hand with evolving the body and staying healthy. I personally started kundalini yoga about a month ago and find it gives me motivation to do other things and stick my plans. Eating organic vegetables is also a pretty big one I think, not only do you get vastly more nutrients and stop filling your body with herbicide and pesticide residue but the Earth itself no longer has to process these chemicals. Its all a process that goes as fast or slow as you let it. By evolving yourself you automatically help the all. Nobody's perfect and to me it's about sticking to the path you know is right. I always ask myself if it evolves me as an eternal being when contemplating something. 1. Consume as little as possible. 2. Eat a pure diet (macrobiotic.) 3. Exercise and stay true to yourself. 4. Give thanks to the Earth, Gaia really does appreciate conversation and acknowledgment. Anyway good luck brother and keep us informed. :)
PS, Plant a tree :)
