"Killing Me Softly" by Roberta Flack and later the Fugees has always been a favorite song of mine. I'd always sing it on karaoke but it wasn't until a few months ago that the words that I always sang actually spoke to me. For the longest time I never gave much thought into the meaning of the song. It wasn't until I was toking away at my little glass bowl from weed I literally scratched together from ashes and listening to music that this song came up on the shuffle. I listened as I always did but this time was different. While I was high something new happened, the meaning of the song's words finally came to me. And at that moment I felt as alone as the singer. A connection she felt but wasn't shared by its originator.

He sang as if he knew me
In all my dark despair
And then he looked right through me
As if I wasn't there

And he just kept on singing
Singing clear and strong
