What ever happened to the land of the free?
The homesteaders?
The restless pioneers pushing beyond intrusion
A place where a man can live as he pleases
To succeed or fail by the sweat of his brow and ingenuity?
Able to shed his identity and reinvent himself anew
Where did that place go?
We had it once

...

We did indeed have it once. Capitalism and greed took over as the conquering worlds took over killing anyone who stood in their way.

You can find little pockets of communities where you can live with the land, farm, and build. It is where I intend to live within the next two months. Look up intentional communities, and stay away from the kool aid haha, seriously though, the communities with set religions may not be....safe. That is why I chose one that accepts all faiths or those with none. It may be small and seemingly insignificant to live in these types of communities, but one day people will come to us afraid and needing to learn esoteric knowledge.

Yeah, all religions are bad

Yeah, all religions are bad in my view because they imply correctitude in practice and I try to stay away from them if possible. Hence why I am slowly moving to Buddhism. Not full blown, but a study and adaptation of ideas, I prefer thought exercises as a way to ascertain greater truths. I don't know if I could join a community, especially a small one. They always run the risk in my mind of being close-minded because of their small nature and need to protect their identity; even if they are based in openness. The idea sounds great though so good luck with that. If you don't mind me asking, where is this place at?

Well, funny thing just

Well, funny thing just happened. My partner called me last night while I was at work, and apparently it isn't working out due to misguided leadership. I am not sure if it is something that I projected, but that deal has already come to an end in that particular place unfortunately. I understand what you mean by it being closed minded even though it focuses on being open, because the intention in the community is to be like minded therefore shutting others out who have a different view or opinion. But I come from a small town, small minded, and religious area. With that being said I'd much rather be around a group of closed minded but like minded individuals than around the ones I am now. It makes me feel absolutely crazy at times when I live in such an area. I cannot say for sure if it is truly what I want at this point, because I have never really had the full pleasure of being around such people, therefore we will go and seek it out and see what it is we feel we have been missing out on. I agree with you that religion is bad because denominations feel they are correct, when in reality almost every religion has the same moral guideline and message, I gather these morals from various religions and roll with it. So far the one I am most fond of is Native American beliefs. Spirituality and oneness instead of a deity. I have found many things I like in Buddhism as well, such as being a teacher- not a all powerful deity.
The place was in Central Florida. Now we are planning to go elsewhere, possibly Arkansas so my love can get some work and in the future try out communities such as Dancing Rabbit in Missouri, The Farm in Tennessee, and Aztlan Earthwalk in Colorado. Many places of interest in our future...right now its just...Where to start???

That's too bad. But

That's too bad. But thinking about what you just said, I was wondering if you considered yourself to be an open-minded individual? Because in your message you described the town you grew up in as rather close-minded, centered on religion. For them, I perceive it is 'paradise' because they live in a place where everyone thinks just like them, not short of what you are looking for except with different values but the same none the less. I would call it comfortable to live with people who agreed with how you think. I, myself, prefer a cosmopolitan lifestyle; different ideas and cultures bombarding each other in a organized chaos. I think it breeds a better individual.

I've been flirting with the idea of oneness and a unified subconscious to everything in existence. Which ironically isn't far from what string theorist and M theorist propose as the nature of the multiverse - that every particle in the universe is linked together on an infinitely long with infinitely narrow string or membrane. It's pretty wild and math I couldn't begin to comprehend.
