The Alienation of the seeker

Lately I've found something strange happening. Acreeping sense of isolation and alienation in my private life. Peers, Friends, online acquaintences all have seemed to withdraw from me. Previous sources of comfort and camraderie seem to shrink with every step I try to take towards enlightenment and the expansion of my counsciousness.

I realise now that this has to happen in order for me to grow. Not all people seek nor want enlightenment. I've detected subtle hints (and not so subtle hints) from peviously friendly people that I'm being seen more and more as a figure of ridicule, a figure of fun. It's my belief that this is because Western Society revels in materialism and instant gratification and the decrying of anything approaching the occult and esoteric knowledge. The pack mentality of most human beings will lead them to agree with their peers regardless of their own private thoughts, pack behaviour wins out as people try not to lose face in the group dynamic. They'll fall in line with mob mentality just to feel accepted.

Perhaps this is where the Seeker is different? In the quest for enlightenment, in the search for Barbelith or Valis or communication with the Holy Guardian Angel the Seeker has seen the bigger picture and no longer cares about saving face, about others opinions, about fear of ridicule?

Most people stagger through life seeking shelter in vices, most of which will eventually kill them, or at least leave them in a poorer physical and mental state than they were. The Seeker looks for the answers to life's most pertinant questions, makes it his/her goal to understnad, to see a bigger canvas. Perhaps it's far too big in scope to truly ever comprehend in the human mind but at least we try.

And so our quest must be taken alone. Very few of us ever attempt to look for the truth when the dogmatic structure of society tells us to never question our position, never question reality, never question why. We are constantly bombarded with advertisements, commercials for products that hav eno spiritual value in our lives. They are only passing distractions which has led the human race to the place we now find ourselves. We need instant gratification. We want a cheese-burger now. We want Video on Demand. We don't want to have to work towards a new way of thinking when we can easily wrap ourselves in a duvet of electronic noise and light.

And so, on the Seekers quest he is shunned, as S/He in turn shuns the new electronic gods of his fellow man and looks inward for true knowledge.

Fear not, intrepid seekers, you do not journey alone. it may seem that you do, it may seem that no-one else understands yor ideas. But we are out here. And we ar ejust like you. We're all in this together.

Namaste.

gypsy hand

Too brite days
midnights that refuse to
abide dark and secret
as empty phrases chant
to fairytale Moons
I tell myself
This is no ordinary room
This is no fleeting flittering life
This is a magical passageway
sparkling like mica, like miracles

Quiet traces
luminous impression
a trailing kite tail binds
silent whimpers, sojourning whispers,
tears shining behind mime smiles

Crone's gnarled fingers, playing
to spite agony
simulate touch
beyond ache
Too brite cell,

hi

//Peers, Friends, online acquaintances all have seemed to withdraw from me.//

You will meet new ones who are on your path, that is what inevitably happens, and then they too will probably be left, depending on how far you want to go and how disciplined you want to be.

May I suggest something for you ... the documentary
Amongst White Clouds

"Gain rare access into the lives of Zen Buddhist monks who live in the remote and scattered hermitages along China's Zhongnan Mountain range. Often forgotten by history, this location and practice has helped these hidden sages attain enlightenment for some five thousand years. Writer/director Edward Burger is one of only a few foreigners to have lived and studied with these wise masters, and he graciously shares their tradition so we might begin exploring our own modern-day suffering and enlightenment. The Path

What you are speaking of; to me, is proof of being on the right path. When one can rise above these mundane things that others are involved in, and obsessed with; shows that you now have vision, a vision that sets you apart. The things that you mentioned, materialism, instant gratification, obsession with techno-gadgetry; all of these things leave one feeling empty, and in need for even more. That is the source of their ridicule. You have gone beyond that, and they can see that you are not in need of these things to feel complete, to feel full, and not in need of being with them in their vicious circle. When all is said and done, if they do not have their constant gratification; what is left for them? They are indeed empty, they are truly alone without these things. You have your knowledge, you are in the process of coming to know the Divine Essence, you will never be alone, or empty. Knowledge brings enlightenment, enlightenment brings you closer to the Divine, being closer to the Divine helps bring you closer to your own true essence, your own true spirit. You are indeed not alone.
Welcome

Nor are you alone. All who

Nor are you alone. All who come here are seeking!

hey,

i'm here, too. i have always been comfortable alone, as my own mirror.

Throat Chakra

I have had a very simular occurance today. Your post has helped me. Thankyou!

As I read your post, my throad chakra tingles a little, spurred into activation. In todays lesson of life. I have learned that once you come through the resentment, move into love, begin to speak your love and your knowing then you must go through this abandondment it seems to come with the activation of the throat chakra when a seeker will no longer remain silent. Which to the seeker is a state not of sorrow of loosing friends but of dissappointment that loved ones refuse to travel the path along with you. Your brothers and sisters whom you see your own being in, such an integral part of you refuse to fly. When will be time to kick them from the nest. Is it up to us as the seeker? Perhaps as the master? I feel that as we become our own guru then our door must be left open to those who wish to come with us. Is this longing for the unbroken circle of beings what keeps us tethered here. The love grows more and more each day. My intension is that all can fly with me, there is no need for suffering, if I could only wake the eyes of the world to see, to have a moment of peace for humanity. But like any intension, I let go of any attachment of whether it will be manifested with the faith that what unfolds will be so blissfully perfect that we will all laugh our way home in the end in a sea of gracious tears of Love.

Here is an awesome song which has deeply stired my soul

hi brian-

this comment rings so true for me, as i had to kick a close friend from the nest by speaking plainly to him, in love, knowing he was not in a position or willing to receive what i had to say. he flew off, to probably suffer and hopefully come to resolution in his own way, however, i fear he is headed to more sorrow or suicide. i am sad/not sad at the same time. it is what it is.

There is nothing easy about seeking.(edited)

Suffering seems to come with seeking, it arises from it, so to speak, it comes in many forms and appears to have some transformative purpose, like making coal into a diamond is a transformation. (Wow, what a sentence. LOL )

It's humbling isn't it? As time goes by one becomes detached.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Detachment

To see; or not to see?

You are very correct, this is a transformative process. One does begin to feel detached in many ways. For myself, many of the things that I place a value on, (over time and self-evolution) became trivial and at times nonsensical. Coming closer to divine wisdom, indeed makes all other things look trivial, but at the same time, one is humbled by not only the vastness of this wisdom, but also by the infinite source. We are indeed blessed by the gift of SIGHT.

EXPAND

If I let go of who I am;
I might become whom I might be.
Lao Tzu

Interesting that you are

Interesting that you are feeling this right now, and I have to say a quite common phenomenon for people that are in this path. So don't feel alone, we are all going through similar experiences ;)
Can I ask you, When did you start to feel this, you say lately...?
It's just because I'm making a analise of these times and the experiences people are going through. when did this feeling started and was this something recurrent in your life, something that you have been struggling with since childhood, teens or later?
Thanks, big big hug,
Tara

thank them

That happens because it's supposed to! Of course you need to align with the people and forces who are conducive to your journey, so those who *aren't* conducive helpfully ridicule and isolate you so that you can go the way you need to go. In fact, pray in thanks for them and how they help us along our paths! Pray in thanks for all the well-placed follies we see in the world that show us the way to go :)

...and love them

I went through a period where I learned to ignore people who had ill intentions or thoughts toward me. I thought it was a breakthrough at the time, but since I've had some greater realizations, I know that that was a very limited breakthrough--because I can't ignore them. I'm not alone; they're all expressions of myself, trying to tell me something. They're scared and hurt just like everyone. I have to continue the healing with love. That's all, just love.

Otherness

In my experience, age 29/30 is a pivotal point at which you leave behind the resources and accomplishments which came naturally earlier. Age 32/32 sets you on your own path. By definition you are always alone on your own path - with others around you. No two people have exactly the same path. However you tend to meet people who are very important for you around this time. It's best to stay conscious of being alone in the midst of others - deception follows if you believe another person's path is yours. At the same time the gift of empathy allows us to overcome every single 'otherness'. These are generalizations!

Age part of the process?

The underlying state of the Universe is one of Pure Information. Reality, our reality is the secondary construct of that sea of information.

Funny you should comment as you did.
I've only just turned 32 and have re-defined my intent towards magickal and spiritual development after a few years in teh wilderness.

Reading Cosmic Trigger by RAW again and just going over the chapter about synchronicity...wow. The synchonisitic events I've experienced lately have been very interesting.

Thanks for the read! I've

Thanks for the read! I've also been crossing over this threshold where my closest friends are leaving me behind to stay where they are. That's fine, but it's damaging to our psyche when we keep saturating ourselves with the same old tune. Everybody is going to get where they are going on their own way, it's only selfish of me to be resentful or feel betrayed. Perhaps they feel this same thing about me, that I am trying to leave them behind, but I'm trying to grow and move forward, they seem to be fine where they are in terms of enlightenment, which barely scratches the surface lol.

We'll keep drifitng down the river until we all eventually meet again.
I'm grateful for this little corner of the internet at this specific time.
It's a place where we can grow together, in hyperspace :D

*SOPA/PIPA would censor boards like this probably. lol

hey thanks :) i didnt agree

hey thanks

:) i didnt agree with a lot of what you had to say about alienation because i have been through that and do not want to walk down the same mentality ive evolved past but i appreciate your ending :)

in juxtposition do agree however with your stateof mind because im so happy with what i have. i do not mind tribulations othewise i would pleatu. you might be a little short or far in your goals but every good effort is helping you wind down through basic middlegrounds

Self discovery is ment to be

Self discovery is ment to be alone, its not anyone elses bi=usiness and no one can do it for you and a date in the future will not bring it to you because its only available Now - it cant happen with a group - those who promote enlightend ego and inititation into groups are meerly awakeng you to a new dream and yoke -
anyone following others leaves them self behind

full "awakening" is not some thing you learn, its more what you unblearn -

return to consciousness not a destination but a state of being from the inside

joy originates inside - who looks for a key out side in the sun light when it was lost inside where it is dark? sweep your house clean and empty then you will see all its contents - You cannot fill a void that bbelongs empty where only God belongs - tring to fill you self with out side things will only leave you suffering

I'm going to agree

I'm going to agree with some of what you've said. Spirituality is largely learned through experiential knowledge that must be experienced rather then learned by the mind. Due to the natural of experiential knowledge it can not be transmitted to others so therefore functioning in groups is unnecessary. However, all seekers in someways may find similar truths provided they are truths but perhaps in very different ways. Much spiritual information can be confirmed by individuals and groups and act as milestones for those along the way of seeking. These confirmations or reaffirmations assure the seeker they are "perhaps" on the right track. The finally decision being left to the seeker regarding spiritual truths and no one else. Should the seeker rely on the guidance of others then they have fallen into the traps of dogma and have lost their way in the beliefs of others.

There are some individual pit falls of having a solely individual pathway to the truth that need to be avoided:

http://www.evolver.net/user/harbinger/blog/traps_along_way

Failing to avoid them leads to self deception.

Thank you for your comments. :)

Awareness won't win you any prizes in the short term

Awareness of a better (or even 'other') way isn't a mass market commodity but anti-profit,non-consumerist, thus hardly widely promoted in todays economically driven world. Sadly living an intentional life without ambitious commercial goals is not the way of the majority world but a practice for the seeker, a spiritual person who prefers the solitude of wisdom and the quietude of equanimity. It can be a lonely place not getting caught up in the popularised hype of cunsumerist life - where the so-called action is. However opting out of the perceived enjoyment of practicing a conventional life leaves little in common with those who who do practice it... and fewer comrades in the locale.

Ironically, it's a lonely road to Oneness but many flames make a fire. It is in the darkness that fire is most visible. So while it feels lonely, it's because a seeker doesn't see as the world sees and at the end of the day, the companship in the world doesn't exist, whereas your inner world does.

I vaguely remember the 'Saturn return' at around 30 yo. Astrologically, the planet Saturn returns to the same position it was in when you were born, every 29.5 years. Astrology texts will provide more helpful and nurturing information on this than standard psychology texts (although you will find it in psychodynamic theory under 'adjustment disorder' for this age cycle as you would 'mid-life crisis' for 40's age group).
