So I just wanted to ask the Evolver community a question. What helps you be creative?

I'm a musician and I'm sure there are lots of artists and creative people here. I also think you might all have your own ways of getting creative about your craft and thinking of new ideas. I think all arts are unique but one thing artists always need is inspiration and passion, which inevitably leads to great creations.

So Evolver, what helps you be creative?

inspiration, literally

Breathing and gratitude.

Ritual gratitude.

Conjuring the spirits of creative intelligence.

Creative

Open a space, I mean, don't try, play around and be a vacuum, then stuff will flow thru. Do what YOU want to do.

Creativity is my Religion

tapping into the infinite source of inspiration/creativity through meditation/vision questing/dreams...i'm also a musician, painter, digital artist, muralist, dabble with film work and poetry...all of the creative arts are connected and within each is divine inspiration...there's just not enough hours in the day to squeeze it all in and at times it can be avery lonely and primal process....upload some of your music videos on here for us to check out...visit my site...Namaste!

A trip to the library,

A trip to the library, seeing what other people have conjured, listening to something new, discovering something old. Dreams and flashes of insight in the shower.

Almost everything

Almost everything - when viewed thru the eyes of love.
Trying times sometimes require more.
Hemispherical syncronization thru Binaural beats, iso-tones, visual pulsing are all useful for changing brain states.
Thanks - E. Sam _ I had not heard about the eye movement method, it seems quite similar to T.R. Constable's Visual Ray technique tho !

" A rising tide - drowns those without boats " - Cee Are

the key is vulgar

whatever you do, do not trust solely the wand-in-hand technique on your journey for creativity. in the best of cases, you will make a mess and waste energy. i would actually suggest contemplating feckless philosophical tidbits and phrases before, say, such charlatan trickery as stuffing a sheathed sword into the stone; such an attempt is essentially pointless!

for true creative inspiration, i would consult the speck of dust set about iota: the all seeing one, the none; the great eye, the am unite!

:)

Thanks! :)

Thanks so much for all your comments, really wasnt expecting all these replies! Lots of cool ideas and philosophies on creativity, seems alot of you mention the way you approach creating is key, which I hadnt really considered before. I will have to do more research and experimenting with these techniques! I would like to ask some questions if I may:

Yellowseed: you mention conjuring the spirits of creative intelligence, do you have any methods by which you like to do so like asking the spirit in a prayer or something? Thanks :)

carpe diem tea: I like the idea of opening up a space and being a vacuum, and I'd like to know if you have any ways you prep for opening a space.

E. Sam: Thanks for the technique, I had not heard of that before, seems to make sense on an intuitive level and I will be trying it out soon!

SoulTraveller: I like your artwork, very psychedelic. I really dont meditate enough, or ever, which is a shame as I think it would help to clear my head sometimes. Im guessing vision questing involves entheogens? I am a fan lol any kinds you recommend? And thanks for your interest in my music, my bands website is http://www.myspace.com/dryrunmetal - let me know what u think!

6 Tektite Serpent: Thanks I really should poke around searching for old/new music that I havent heard before - my collection is getting a little repetitive. Any artists you like that I should check out?

Cee Are: Cool ways to change brain states! I will be looking into these further, thank you :)

isChariot en Reverie: Im not sure quite what you mean by wand-in-hand technique or stuffing a sheathed sword into the stone, I am a bit lost in the metaphors lol also could you please explain "consulting the speck of dust set about iota: the all seeing one, the none; the great eye, the am unite" Much appreciated :)

More comments and ideas are also welcome as always :)

yes

Whatever works for you in prayer/meditation. Generally, for me, it has been building a life of reverence and devotion, mainly through routine/ritual conscious/intentional/grateful breathing ("Do you understand? You have lived your entire life ignorant to the tremendous joy involved in just breathing!").

This frees your mind from daily bodily/sensorial stimuli and allows the higher organs to come into awareness and activity. I'm not a musician but I occasionally get spontaneous symphonies playing in my head as I lay down to sleep (after meditation), and I never even listened to classical music!

She hastens to make herself known in anticipation of men's desire;
he who watches for her at dawn shall not be disappointed, for he shall find her sitting by his gate.
For taking thought of her is the perfection of prudence, and he who for her sake keeps vigil shall quickly be free from care;
Because she makes her own rounds, seeking those worthy of her, and graciously appears to them in the ways, and meets them with all solicitude.

dirty jokes

haha, yeah the ambiguity was rather tasteless. just dirty occultish jokes... "being creative" in respect to making babies is the key to the dirty jokes. wands and swords are phallic... can't create with just your hand, can't do it while sheathed either. hardy-harr, the magic is gone ha.

zero point. zero awareness. meditate into your deepest center, or contemplate it. request your inspiration there. it ought to come.

and if you're having trouble with guitar inspiration or you're getting bored with your own sound put it in the closet until you're feeling a strong urge to play. repeat the process until you break through and stumble across refreshing sounds.

try recording your dreams every morning. if you can't remember them, praying about it daily (which means your subconscious[your personal dream-self.... so to speak] will hear your request) will lead to you remembering. use your own dream content, especially the really confusing and interesting dreams, for other artful inspiration.

try learning to draw sacred geometry. start with nothing but a pen. then employ a ruler. eventually, step up to using a compass also. lots of cool shapes and illusions will show themselves to you.

watch documentaries about nature, tribal life, and even urban culture.

study the infinitely numerable downfalls of politics and create satirical art.

pull inspiration from entheogenic experiences.

much love.

Creative Process

Hey,

For me it's simply being in the the process, in the act itself that ignites the flame. Following the flow of heart energy without the minds editing and doubts. Subconscious stream so to speak brings epiphanies and revelations. It is the way I paint and the creative writing - poetry. Play of the inner child.
The day dream made manifest, wandering in the frontier curious and passionate of what might be around the corner. Of course te hearing, seeing, reading great works in your medium - for me not only inspires, but drives me to work harder.

blessings,

Crativity and expanding the mind.

Knowledge leads to creative thought. Dig around outside of the box and you might be supprised at what you unearth. With music dont just study one style. Go out find a wide varity of styles and create one of your own with blends of all of them. Me I am into everything from hard rock to classical. So I dont limit myself to any of them. A current favorite of mine is bluegrass. A timeless mountian music praticed quite well by my father. Mike L.
