New Moon Libra - A Season of Surrender

Happy Autumn as a new season unfolds before us, a season that invites us to surrender the What resplendent butterflies will emerge from the chrysalis of the darkening times?

As September bows out and October sneaks in, we are graced by a cornucopia of Libra planets and a highly charged and potent New Moon at 4 degrees Libra this Tuesday, September 27th. The Moon and Sun both conjoin Mercury, and all three form a T-Square with the major transit of this decade, the Uranus-Pluto square.

Revolutionary and reactionary, this New Moon may create sudden shifts in our life direction, inviting us to lead through intuition, and to strengthen our bonds with intimates and partners in order to invigorate the paradigm-shifting changes needed now worldwide. Whatever planetary forces we have at the first degrees of Cardinal signs Aries, Cancer, Libra, or Capricorn, will experience a cathartic breakdown––to––breakthrough at this time.

It is helpful to remember that in the ancient world, the constellation of Libra was called “Hades’ chariot,” an apt symbol for the Plutonian square to this New Moon and the Sun’s movement next month into the underworld cauldron of Scorpio, the shadowy domain of Hades/Pluto.

The hard aspects to Mercury this week will challenge our ability to maintain focus and sensitivity. The decision-making Libra, together with the erratic emotions and chaotic thinking of Mercury and the Moon opposite Uranus, and the square to Pluto can also spark words that lack compassion, though strike, like claws, with penetrating truth. Interestingly, the Greeks combined the constellation of Libra with the Scorpion, and the stars in Libra formed the claws of the creature.

But we are also compelled to think in innovative ways while releasing destrcutive emotional patterns, both of which can empower and awaken us into new levels of self-awareness and clarity. Boldness in the face of uncertainty and the willingness to share your magical formula with those you meet can be rewarded.

In the next few weeks, the inharmonious and imbalanced aspects of our partnerships will be unveiled in order to promote relationship fairness. The Sun and Mercury approach a conjunction with Venus, Saturn, and Juno all together in this sign of the scales, asking us to mature our commitments and learn healthy negotiation in our ability to give and receive equally. Saturn, Venus, and Juno ask, Can our relationships endure? Do they have stamina, purpose, and goal?

With the trials of Venus and all this Libra energy, relationships can benefit from coaching and guidance, remembering the Libra is also the sign of the counselor. Likewise, injustices in our education system can be revealed with all this Libra energy. The greatest injustice in education is the lack in honoring the soul of the individual child. Many parents are realizing this and opting for Unschooling, Homeschooling, and alternative schooling options for education and child-rearing. This last week in Wisconsin, I was blessed to observe in a high school environment and learned from these young adults about the various challenges facing them, such as the pressures of academia competing with the abilities to enjoy extracurricular activites, while maintaining a job, and engaging life-experience. Are we creating another generation of work-a-holics, busy multitaskers, overwhelmed, stressed, and unable to focus on nurturing their essential gifts?

A note of shamanic insight on my trip to the midwest––at the Harmony Park festival I attended in Minnesota, I met 4 different women with OWL tattoos, which I also have. On my last day of my trip, I saw my first Owl in flight!! Not only was this a magical connection with one of my deep totems, but it reminded me of the many synchronistic meetings and conversations I had with individuals who are seeking to shift the systems of education in the world. Owl medicine pulses with sage wisdom, and has long been a symbol for intelligence, deep perception, and evolutionary education.
