2010—The Year in Review
2010 has been an epic year for Evolver Long Beach, as we started off a wee four months old, and have seen amazing community connections, collaborations, and projects grow from our monthly spore events. The following is a summary of the year’s events, with links to videos and other media.
We started off the year with “Give it Up,” exchanging gifts, watching a Burners without Borders documentary, and introducing the idea of time banking. Since then, we’ve seen the Long Beach Time Exchange grow into a resilient community project. Amy Rose wrote a wonderful article on this spore that was published on our parent website, RealitySandwich.com.
In February, we fell in love with the Artists as Art space beside Sipology in the East Village Arts District, and explored relationships, self-love, experienced shamanic healing, and enjoyed the music of Alyssandra Nighswonger, and an amazing 10’ live art piece created by Paul Hogue, made possible by Tinderbox.
March was trippy as ”Entheogen” explored the pioneering psychedelic research of MAPS and featured a discussion on critical thinking with activist and writer Charles Shaw, notable guest Jan Irvin, and a dance party with DJ Dravidian.
We dove deep into our dreams in April, with an event at Exhibit A that featured music from Jack Marko, the dream masks of Patricia Gay, a discussion of Tibetan dream yoga, Amy George reading about how dreams changed her gender with harp accompaniment by Chris Lyles, followed by an all-night dream yoga session with our special dream-enhancing tea creation.
In May, we hosted Evolver.net coordinator Jonathan Phillips, local herbalist Julie James, Lovers INC, and local farmer Paul Tryba to discuss local resilience.
Additionally, Evolver Poets performed at the Green Long Beach festival and The LB Experiment.
In June, we supported the Soulstice Fest by filming the event.
In July, we explored crop circles with a special screening, and pondered life in the universe as we jammed to the best in local hip-hop at The Infinite Yoga’s recently acquired space.
We also held a Gulf of Mexico water blessing at the beach, before our water spore in August saw us collaborating with Friends of Colorado Lagoon and Brain Machine to address local water issues as well as continuing our discussion of sound and vibration.
In September, we participated in the 9-11 Portal Festival by discussing spiritual activism with LA Evolver Baza Novic, before helping with the official kickoff of the Long Beach Time Exchange at 2nd City Gallery’s beautiful garden space, before returning for our family-geared event, “The Magic of Creation” in October, which brought together the mission of Lovers INC, the creative work of Lil’ Big Ups, harpist Peter Sterling, and much more in a hands-on interactive event.
October also saw the release of Evolver co-founder Daniel Pinchbeck's movie, 2012 Time For Change, with Evolver Long Beach founder Tony Damico speaking at the premiere week in LA.
In November, we launched The Evolver Mixtape on RealitySandwich.com, a free download which featured the best conscious music in our region, before bringing several of the artists to the stage in December as we collaborated with over a dozen community organizations, producing a “Visionary Culture” stage at a holiday event called “Mixmas.”
It's amazing to reflect on the moments we've shared in the past year, and exciting to look forward to what 2011 will have in store.
