Before Patrice Chaplin married Michael, son of Hollywood's beloved Charlie Chaplin, she fell deeply in love with a Catalan named Josep Tarres. It was the mid 50's and Patrice was a ”Trad Jazz" Bohemian. A sort of esoteric rat pack, Patrice and Jose were among an intimate group including Salvidor Dali, Jean Cocteau, and Umberto Eco.
In the late 70's Patrice and Jose publicly uncovered the most significant
Jewish site in medieval Spain, the Kabbalah synagogue of Nahmanides. This Sephardic synagogue, concealed by Queen Isabella in 1492 after the
expulsion, held closely guarded material, information which has been protected for centuries by families such as Jose's.
In this documentary, producer Carrie Kirkpatrick explores the hidden mystical past of the medieval city of Girona, in Northern Spain. Join her as she retraces the steps of Patrice Chaplin, author of 'City of Secrets: One Woman's True-life Journey to the Heart of the Grail Legend' and discovers Girona's Jewish past and its links to Rennes-Le-Chateau and the Holy Grail.
